The woman told the attacker that she had just returned from Wuhan and had been infected, therefore she was home alone in self-quarantine.
Amid the deadly outbreak of novel coronavirus, a woman from China managed to scare off a man who tried to rape her by coughing and saying that she was from Wuhan. According to Daily Mail, the suspect broke into the victim's house situated in the city of Jingshan near Wuhan, on Friday night and attempted to sexually assault her. While trying to save herself, Yi desperately shouted, "I just returned from Wuhan and have been infected, therefore I am home alone in self-quarantine." Yi, who was otherwise healthy, then pretended to cough while struggling to push the attacker, who was trying to squeeze her neck and cover her mouth.

The fear of being infected by the virus, which has already infected more than 20,000 people, forced the suspect to flee the scene but it was not before he robbed Yi of 3,080 yuan ($441) in cash. The frightening incident took place in the town of Pingba situated on the outskirts of Jingshan city which is just a three-hour drive away from Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus. On Monday, the Jingshan Public Security Bureau took to social media and posted the details of the attack.
They explained how hunting for the attacker was a challenge as all the residents in the area were wearing masks, including the suspect, to keep themselves from being affected by a coronavirus. Somehow he was later identified as 25-year-old Xiao who turned himself in on Monday and was accompanied by his father to the station. Authorities further revealed that Xiao had walked out on his family without any money on the night of the attack, thus he had intentions of robbing. However, when he saw Yi alone in the house Xiao he decided to sexually assault her. Moreover, Xiao admitted to all his wrongdoings and was placed in detention.
The death toll and the number of people infected by coronavirus continue to rise and show no signs of slowing down. Currently, 563 people have been reported dead after contracting the Wuhan coronavirus and despite the preventive measures taken by the country, the number of confirmed cases globally stands at 28,256. According to CNN, two newborns in Wuhan have been infected and the youngest one was diagnosed when the baby was just 30 hours old. Apparently, even the baby's mother was infected suggesting that "there may be the mother-infant transmission," where the mom passes it on to the child while it's still in her uterus.
