Woman Pushes Famous Anti-Gay Priest Offstage During Sermon, In Front Of 50,000 Praying Catholics

The 32-year-old ran on to the stage and violently pushed the priest off it as worshippers reacted with shock.

Anti-Gay Priest Marcelo Rossi was in for the shock of his life as a girl ran on to the stage and pushed him off it while giving a sermon to over 50,000 devotees. The video has now gone viral on the internet. The video was also being broadcast live when the incident happened. The incident took place at Cachoeira Paulista in the state of São Paulo in Brazil, according to a report by Newsweek.



 

 

While there were rumors on Twitter that the girl had pushed the priest off stage for claiming that “fat women didn’t go to heaven”, the intent of the girl remains a mystery. The footage of the incident has since gone viral on YouTube. Globo, a Brazilian newspaper confirmed that the priest was unharmed despite being pushed off stage. The woman was apprehended but no charges were pressed against her.



 

 

Father Rossi can be seen delivering a speech during the closing ceremony of a youth camp. More than 50,000 worshippers were in attendance for the event. The 32-year-old woman, hailing from Rio De Janerio, traveled for the youth camp. In the video, the woman can be seen running and violently shoving the priest off stage. With mic still wired on to the priest, a loud thud can be heard as Father Rossi lands on the floor. The worshippers can be seen rising to their feet and gasping in shock.



 

 

Other members of the Church can also be seen reacting in shock. The girl can be smiling after pushing the priest off the stage. She then jumps off the stage. 



 

 

Father Marcelo Rossi is often called a “preaching powerhouse” and has reportedly sold millions of musical records in Brazil. He is known for his energetic and lively sermons. He was dubbed the “pop-star priest” by the Associated Press. He is part of Canção Nova, a Brazilian Catholic community. The Canção Nova community is well-known for broadcasting religious material online. The incident was streamed online as a result and went viral. Social media users clearly enjoyed watching the priest being pushed off stage with one user writing: This lady in Brazil got fed up with the pastor and decided to go push him off the podium during a sermon last Sunday. The priest name is Father Marcello Rossi. Don't laugh.



 

Marcelo Rossi is also famous for making anti-gay statements. In, 1998, he claimed that “A lot of ideas will change the day homosexuality is proven to be an illness.”



 

 

Canção Nova addressed the incident in a short statement, "The priest is well. He was attended by the medical staff at the event and presided over the celebration to the end." Shortly after the incident the Catholic community also released a short video in which Father Rossi can be seen revealing that he was doing well. He also assured believers that he had only experienced some pain.



 

 

"It hurt, but pay close attention. I was just going to talk about pain but I did not imagine it was going to be like this," said the priest in an interview with Brazilian news magazine based in São Paulo, Vejo. President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, tweeted shortly after the video went viral, “All our solidarity with Father Marcelo Rossi. God looks [over] Brazil. God may look over Brazil, but he may need to look over Father Rossi for a little bit."



 

 

It remains a mystery as to how the woman managed to get past security officials at the venue. She was nabbed by security officials and handed over to the local police forces after the incident. Police are alleging that the woman was suffering from mental health issues. No charges have been pressed against the woman.
