There were several people attending the wedding, but none of them seemed to find anything wrong with the adult groom getting married to a 15-year-old.
Wedding venues are drama hotspots, and no wedding is complete without tipsy uncles getting into a heated discussion, or the bride losing her cool. The last thing you'd expect is a fight to break out between the photographer and the groom. Well, a Turkish wedding witnessed a fight between the two and the reason is no laughing matter. Turkish wedding photographer Onur Albayrak was approached by the groom two weeks ahead of the wedding and he was more than happy to take on the project, but little did he know that the bride he would photograph was actually a teenage girl.
According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet Daily News, wedding photographer Onur Albayrak was quite shocked when he realized the bride was a young 15-year-old girl, and so, he not only refused to be a part of the wedding, he also decided to stand up for the young teen, who was reportedly "trembling". He ultimately punched the much older groom, an adult, right in the face, leaving him with a broken nose. The photographer, who arrived at the wedding venue in Eastern Turkey was taken aback when he saw the bride. “The groom had come to my studio some two weeks ago and was alone. I saw the bride for the first time at the wedding," Albayrak said.

He immediately noticed that the girl was too young, and he wanted to double-check to see if she was old enough to get married. Soon enough, Albayrak realized she was only 15, and he was infuriated. That's when he noticed the poor girl trembling in fear and so he got into a heated argument with the groom. The spat soon turned violent and the photographer threw punches at the groom. Albayrak, who confirmed the news through social media said, "Yes, the reports are correct. A child bride means child abuse, and no force in the world can make me photograph a child as a bride."
“True hero. Turkish photographer, Onur Albayrak, stopped the wedding he was hired to photograph after realizing the bride was only 15-years-old. More than 100 wedding organizers in Turkey have called him to promise they would reject child brides.”... https://t.co/RxznVapSeM— Kick at Darkness (@KickDarknessNow) July 22, 2018
He also went on to explain how the fight actually started. "She’s a child, and I felt her fear because she was trembling. The groom attacked me as I was leaving," said the photographer. He also added that he didn't regret his actions in the slightest bit. People who came to know of Albayrak's heroic act praised him. “Very often for social reasons people don’t want to make a scene so I am really happy he did this. He should be hailed as a hero, we need more people like this,” said Yasmeen Hassan, global executive director of campaign group Equality Now to Reuters.

There were numerous guests present at the wedding, most of them who probably knew about the startling age difference, but none of them said a word against it, except for the brave photographer. Hopefully, the wedding didn't take place, but there are no reports to state it didn't. Turkish law prohibits the marriage of anyone under the age of 18, but several reports by various human rights violations show that there has been an increase in the number of such marriages. It is technically illegal in the country, but still many people in Eastern Turkey have accepted it as a part of their culture. Let's just hope that there are more people like Albayrak who can put an end to such societal norms.
