On April 18, 2020, the couple would have celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary after they got married in 2001.
Vanessa Bryant would have celebrated her 19th wedding anniversary with Kobe this year, had it not been for the unfortunate accident that claimed the lives of her husband and her daughter. But, Vanessa did receive a thoughtful gift from her loved ones on April 18th. On Saturday, Vanessa, 37, took to Instagram to share photos of a bouquet of red roses that Pau Gasol, her late husband Kobe Bryant‘s former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, and his wife Catherine McDonnell sent in honor of the couple’s 19th wedding anniversary, reports People. She captioned the post: Anniversary flowers from my Kobe. ❤️💔🙏🏽 Thank you @nataliabryant #GiannaBryant#BiankaBryant #CapriBryant @jeffleatham @catmcdonnell7 @paugasol.
Gasol, who played on the Lakers from 2008 to 2014, commented: We love you V! accompanied by two heart emojis, while McDonnell wrote, You are so loved. Happy anniversary mama! ❤️ To commemorate her first anniversary without her husband, Vanessa shared an old picture of the so-in-love couple with the caption: My king, my heart, my best friend. Happy 19th wedding anniversary baby. I miss you so much. I wish you were here to hold me in your arms. I love you. In the days that led up to her anniversary, Vanessa also shared a video of Kobe talking about how he knew she was the one. “You know, it’s hard to pinpoint what exactly makes a person the one for you, but you just know,” he said in the throwback video.
”Love is a funny thing. I can’t explain it and I can’t understand it. All I know is, she caught my heart and I just knew that she was the one.” He then added, "Vanessa, she’s very strong. She’s very strong-willed." He also said that he saw them as being “two cool ass parents" in the future. The two of them first met in 1999 - when Kobe was 20 and Vanessa was 17 - on the sets of a music video. Soon enough, the two of them started dating. As soon as Vanessa turned 18, the basketball star proposed to her, and in 2001, the couple tied the knot. They went on to welcome four children together: daughters Natalia, 17, Gianna, 13, Bianka, 3, and Capri, 9 months.
Vanessa Bryant also shared another video with the caption: Mamba Day. My husband worked his ass off for 20 years. Gave it his all. All he wanted was to spend time with our girls and me to make up for lost time. He wanted to be there for every single milestone and special moment in our girls lives. He only got to enjoy 3 years and 9 months of retirement. We had 2 more daughters, he won an Oscar, he opened Granity studios, he became a 5x best selling author and coached Gianna’s basketball team in that time. She worked hard and gave her all 7 days a week just like her daddy. I wish I could go back to that morning, every day. I wish they had a normal local game on 1/26. Life truly isn’t fair. This is just senseless. One glimpse at her Instagram handle, and it's evident that she's clearly missing her husband and baby girl, but she's doing everything she can to make sure her children Natalia, Bianka, and Capri lead a normal life.
