Tyler Perry offered to pay their rent, cover funeral charges, and even pay for their tuition fees if needed.
Actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry is doing all he can to help a grieving family of four after their mother, Tynesha Evans, was fatally shot by her boyfriend in Atlanta on Sunday. According to People, the suspect, Othniel Inniss, allegedly lured the 45-year-old mom to a Wells Fargo bank. The police said he promised her to give money for the rent, but only to shoot her instead. Evans’ daughter Audrey Turner said she got a call from Perry after the news broke, and she was surprised to know just how much he was willing to help her and her siblings. “It was a call I wasn’t even going to answer. I said, ‘Well, let me answer it to see who it is.’ I answered and the person on the other end said, ‘This is Tyler.’ I said, ‘Who?’ He said, ‘This is Tyler.’ I said, ‘Tyler who?’ and he said, ‘Tyler Perry.’ At that point, I just broke down crying,” Audrey told a local news station.
Tyler Perry is said to have paid their rent so they can continue to live in their house, and he even volunteered to Pay for Evans' funeral and fly her body to Wisconsin, her home state, for another funeral. The actor is also said to have promised to pay tuition for Evans’ other daughter Sharadiant Turner, who is a freshman at Spelman College. “I’m going to do what she wanted me to do. She started me on math and now I’m going to get to graduate with a mathematics degree from Spelman College without debt, it means everything,” Sharadiant told the news station.
58-year-old Inniss has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to police. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family, with over $59,000 already being raised. Alpharetta Department of Public Safety took to Facebook to share the incident. It read: This morning at about 11:40 am, our 911 center received an emergency call of shots fired on the corner of N. Main Street and Academy Street. Multiple officers responded to the scene and located the female victim, 45-year-old Tynesha Evans of Alpharetta, lying in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo Bank at 21 N. Main Street.
It further said: Also in the parking lot was the suspect, 58-year-old Othniel Inniss of Alpharetta, who was immediately handcuffed and secured by officers without incident. At the time of the shooting, an armed witness who was driving by the bank heard the shot, got out to help, confronted the suspect, ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, and waited until our officers arrived on scene. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene.
Tynesha Evans was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital where she passed away. Othniel Inniss was taken to our headquarters and questioned by our detectives. He has been charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. The victim and the suspect were in an on-again, off-again relationship that sadly ended in senseless violence during an argument. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time.
Surprisingly, this is not the first time Tyler Perry has reached out to help people in need. In December 2018, Perry cleared off all of the layaways at two Atlanta Walmarts, which cost him nearly $434,000. In a video he posted on Twitter, he claimed he tried to do it anonymously, but he was caught in the act. "Trying to do this anonymously but, um, due to some circumstances y’all know how nothing stays secret these days," he said in the video.

"So, I just wanted to go ahead and tell you. If you have a layaway at the Walmart at 844 Cleveland Avenue in East Point, Georgia — in Atlanta — or if you have a layaway at the Walmart at 7001 Concourse Parkway in Douglasville, Georgia — if you have a layaway at either place and it was in there as of 9:30 this morning, it was already in layaway before 9:30 this morning — I have paid for all of your layaways for Christmas," he added.
Perry continued, “So, Merry Christmas to everybody. You have to go into the Walmart, get your layaway, pay a penny — one penny — and you get your layaway. I know it’s hard times, a lot of people are struggling. I’m just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this.” A layaway is when a customer can make reservations at the store by giving a deposit and then come to pick it up later on and pay the remaining amount.
