Katie Holmes shared a picture on Suri's birthday and wrote, "I am so blessed to be your mom. May this year be incredible!" Her daughter turned 14 on April 18.
Suri Cruise, the daughter of the former Hollywood power couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, turned 14 on Saturday, April 18. Holmes, 41, shared a picture on her Instagram of a wall with a minimalistic decoration of flowers and the words "Happy Birthday" hung up on it. "I am so blessed to be your mom. May this year be incredible!", she wrote, addressing the teenager. The Batman Begins actress has had the sole job of raising Suri since her high-profile and "intense" split with ex-husband Tom Cruise in 2012 as his links to Scientology drew an irreparable wedge between their relationship.
Holmes has since taken to her role very well in raising her daughter all by herself. In a recent interview with InStyle, she shared a few tidbits on what her daughter is like. She said: "I love her so much. My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it. She came out very strong—she's always been a strong personality." Talking about how focused Suri can be, Holmes said: "She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it. Then she's like, "OK, I'm going to try the next thing." She's very focused and a hard worker."
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise, who was last seen with Suri when she was seven, has been attempting to rekindle his relationship with his estranged daughter and even reportedly got in touch with her late last year. According to New Idea, a source revealed that the action star came to the decision after seeing recent pictures of her and is ready to make adjustments to have her in his life. "He saw a photo of Suri looking all grown up, and it changed everything. With Katie single again, and Suri not having a father figure in her life, it’s the perfect opportunity to reach out," the source said. The attempts at rekindling wasn't a one-way street either. A Star magazine report reveals that Suri had allegedly tried to make contact with her father multiple times but to no avail and she had "even given up" according to a source.
However, the elder Cruise sent an emotional email explaining his lack of presence in her life. "He explained why he'd been absent all these years, and said he hoped to make it up to her if it wasn't too late." The report further shows this could all be possible. "There’s his acting world, his religion world and now, hopefully, Suri will be part of his life again. I truly believe he wants a relationship with her. At the end of the day, Suri only has one father and that’s Tom," the source said.
Cruise is currently awaiting the release of his latest movie Top Gun: Maverick which will see him reprise the iconic role of Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell from his super hit 1986 movie, Top Gun. The release is set for June 26, just over two years after his previous film, Mission Impossible: Fallout - a massive box office success which grossed $791.1 million on a $178 million budget.
Despite his age and the dangerous nature of the stunts, the actor is neither ready to hang up his boots nor allow doubles to do his stunts. His ex-wife, meanwhile, has had two movies set for release later this year in The Secret: Dare To Dream and Coda while her other film Brahms II: The Boy, tanked at the box office, earning a paltry $20 million on a $10 million budget.
