The dog ran out as quickly as he came in and went back to his family. He lives about a mile from the station.
The Odessa Police Department in Texas had an unexpected visitor walk in through their doors to report that someone had gone missing. The friendly dog was eager to let the cops know of the incident of a missing person, and well, the one missing was none other than the smart pupper himself. Sergeant Rusty Martin was among the officers who witnessed the incident, and the dog seemed to have no idea about his "lost dog" status. It just seemed like he was out to have a good time, and by the looks of it, he was definitely enjoying himself!
"We were all excited to have him in the building," Martin told The Dodo. "We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him." Of course, they did enjoy his company, but they didn't forget that he'd come here to report a missing person case, and the cops soon got on it and worked towards reuniting the dog with his family. However, it hit an unexpected snag. The dog was wearing a collar, but the ID tag had apparently fallen off, so animal control had to be dispatched and check for a microchip. It took some time for them to arrive, but there was another unexpected turn of events that occurred at the station.
The dog decided that he'd been "missing" enough and wanted to head back to his family, so he did that, all on his own. The Facebook page Support Our Permian Basin Police Officers shared some pictures from the fun event and wrote: So.... this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night. We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation. He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.
"He ran out just as quick as he came in," Martin said, having posted about the incident on Facebook. "The owner responded the next day [to say that] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station. I was impressed," Martin said. "He may just be cut out for this work." Leigh Aileen gushed: OMG, he’s so adorable. I love him and don’t even know him. He has the sweetest face. Not to mention his smartness.
Juliana Gregory took to Facebook to share: The pooch just wanted to see if there were any places on the K9 teams and when he saw that weren't no openings he decided to leave and thank you for your services and I got an armload of salutes from me to you guys and I got your backs since you guys have mine. Ginger Branham Coleman added: I absolutely LOVE this post! I saw it on our local news in South Carolina! This dog is so smart and he is beautiful! Gotta love a dog, I know that my fur babies are my Best Friends! Celia Nutt also wrote: OMG! How cute is this? I'm sure the officers loved this. What a handsome applicant...I'll hire him.
