'The Young & The Restless' Star Kristoff St. John To Be Buried Next to Son Who Died By Suicide

'The Young & The Restless' Star Kristoff St. John To Be Buried Next to Son Who Died By Suicide

Kristoff St. John played Neil Winters on 'The Young and the Restless' for almost three decades. Sadly, he passed away on February 3.

Kristoff St. John was a regular on the television series The Young and the Restless. On the soap opera, St. John played the role of Neil Winters, who is, incidentally, the longest-running male African American character to feature on the show. The actor's career started at the young age of ten. He first appeared in a featuring role on Big John, Little John, a Saturday-morning comedy, in 1976. St. John, tragically, was discovered dead on Sunday, February 3. The legendary actor was found in his home in San Fernando Valley by a close friend who visited the property to check up on St. John. When he found the actor's body, he immediately phoned the police and paramedics who arrived as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, he was immediately pronounced dead on the scene.

The latest reports state that St. John will be buried next to his beloved son Julian at the Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, California. Valley Oaks Memorial is the resting place for many notable individuals, including actress Josephine Dunn, singer Eddie Dean, and baseball player Billy Consolo. While funeral details are still pending, this is a bittersweet moment as Julian took his own life as a teenager — many believe that St. John, too, died by suicide in his home.

As per official reports, it has been confirmed that there were no signs on foul play involved that could have resulted in his death. However, it is possible that alcohol could have played a role. TMZ, who obtained the dispatch audio from the fire department, reported that the emergency phone call was made to get help for an "unconscious individual" at St. John's residence. Experts are heard using the phrase "natural causes" during the call, giving the impression that foul play did not occur prior to the actor's death.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) also made their own report, stating that a death investigation did take place at around 2 pm. The media did insinuate that the cause of St. John's death was quite likely self-inflicted, and the LAPD's report does seem to confirm this. The investigation was carried through to find further details about a possible alcohol overdose at the 2300 block of Morea Way. However, a conclusive cause of death is still pending as the results from his autopsy are yet to be released.

The reason many believe the death to be a result of self-inflicted causes is that St. John has had a long history of suffering from mental illness. Throughout his life, the prolific actor battled suicidal ideation and thoughts. This has often been attributed to his son's passing. Julian, St. John's son with his ex-wife boxer Mia St. John, died by suicide in 2014 despite the fact that he was receiving treatment for his own mental health issues at a healthcare facility. He was only 25 years old.

Regarding St. John's passing, fellow The Young and the Restless costar Shemar Moore told PEOPLE, "This is not how he’s going to be remembered in his last days. He’s going to be remembered for his journey, for how much he loved his children — Paris, Lola, and Julian, his son who had a hard time and took his life. And Kristoff, he weathered that storm and he loved me and he loved Allana and his current fiancée, I don’t know her name — I never met her — but I was just excited him to see him in love again, just in love, somebody to share his heart with."

St. John is survived by his fiancée, Kseniya Mikhaleva, his daughter Paris (with his first ex-wife Mia), and daughter Lola (with his second ex-wife Allana Nadal). In a since-deleted social media post, ex-wife Mia stated, "That hospital killed our son, Julian! Then my husband, Kristoff! That's what happened! They killed my family!" It is evident that the boxer is connecting her husband's death to her son's. His fiancée Kseniya asked, "How did [this] happen? How? Why did you leave so early? [Why did you leave] me all alone?"

Fans and celebrities alike took to social media platform Twitter to express their grief over the incident. Actor Shemar Moore said, "Mr. Kristoff St. John... There is no ME without YOU! You are MY BROTHER! I LOVE YOU! Sleep, my dude... REST IN PEACE... I’ll finish what YOU started! THANK YOU for YOUR HEART." Vinastfran posted, "Goodbyes are never easy! Kristoff can't be replaced. He was an extraordinary talent, who happened to be a man of color who broke barriers in a tough genre! Sucks we have to say farewell to both Neil and Kristoff."
