Barack And Michelle Obama Are Most Admired Man And Woman For Second Year In A Row In Poll

The former first couple was voted the most admired people in Singapore for the second year in a row. They also topped the lists in several other countries that were polled.

An annual poll by YouGov that measures the most admired people in the world has revealed that Barack and Michelle Obama have secured the top spot as Singapore's most admired man and woman for the second year in a row. The poll gathers open-ended nominations from panelists across 41 countries, asking them: “Thinking about people alive in the world today, which [man or woman] do you most admire?” It then compiles a list of 20 men and 20 women who received the top nominations and were nominated in at least four countries, to create a worldwide list.

In Singapore, Barack Obama was followed closely by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, American business magnate Warren Buffet, and Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma. The rest of the list is largely made up of billionaire entrepreneurs. Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is 8th on the list. He and singer JJ Lin, in 10th position, are the only two Singaporean nationals in the top ten list. Former American First Lady Michelle Obama tops Singapore's list of most admired women. She is followed by Queen Elizabeth II.

Politicians feature large on this list, with Burmese politician and Nobel Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in 6th place, German Chancellor Angel Merkel in 8th place, former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 9th place, and former British Prime Minister Theresa May comes in 10th. The poll was conducted in countries that make up around two-thirds of the world's population, and 1,112 Singaporeans were surveyed for this year's edition of the poll.

Michelle Obama also bagged top spot on the list as the most admired woman in the world, while former President Barack Obama was second on the most admired men list this year, surpassed by Bill Gates. The former first couple also topped the list as the most admired woman and man in the U.S, followed by Ruth Bader Ginsburg and current President Donald Trump respectively. Amazingly, the Obamas have also topped the polls this year in Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Mexico, Netherlands, and Norway. Barack and Michelle Obama also featured in the top five spots of their respective lists in a large majority of the countries polled by YouGov this year.
