The couple headed to Las Vegas merely hours after the Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday evening and got married in a surprise wedding!
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are officially man and wife. The couple headed to Las Vegas merely hours after the Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday evening where the Jonas Brothers performed as a band for the first time in decades. In a surprise wedding ceremony, the two of them got married, according to People. The entire wedding ceremony was documented on Diplo's Instagram story where Joe and Sophie's wedding was officiated by an Elvis impersonator at Chapel L’Amour inside A Little White Wedding Chapel. Records online suggest the couple applied for a marriage license earlier in the day in Clark County, Nevada. A source also confirmed that the wedding was legitimate.
Several stars who attended the Music Awards were also a part of the ceremony, including Khalid. 23-year-old Turner walked down the aisle wearing a low-cut white silk top with matching pants and a finger-tip length veil, while Dan + Shay performed an acoustic version of their hit Speechless. Joe and his brothers, who served as groomsmen, stood side-by-side at the altar. They all wore matching grey suits and they looked dashing!
During the ceremony, the Elvis impersonator told the couple to hold hands and look into each other’s eyes, before having them recite their vows together. “I promise you, I will never leave you. I will love and trust you, all the days of my life,” they said. “In sickness and in health… forever and ever.” Nick Jonas, who is now her brother-in-law officially, handed her a bouquet of flowers which had blue lights in them!
The two of them officially became husband and wife after exchanging ring pops as wedding bands. “Fine folks, family… in the power vested in me, it is my pleasure to pronounce you two husband and wife. You may kiss that bride!” the Elvis impersonator said. Their kiss initiated a loud round of cheer from the audience. Joe and Sophie are also not the first celebrity couple to tie the knot in Las Vegas.
They join Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow, Michael Jordan, Britney Spears, and Judy Garland, among a number of others. Joe and Sophie have been dating since November 2016, when Jonas first slid into Turner's DM's after a lot of people suggested they should meet. By December of that same year, a source revealed that they were “dating exclusively” and Joe was “willing to settle down for her” after having played the field. After nearly a year of dating, he took that next step, proposing to Turner in October 2017.
In March, Joe revealed that the couple had decided on a date to tie the knot. “Well, we’re going to get married this year,” he revealed, to cheers from the audience. “We’re going to have a summer wedding, which I’m looking forward to,” he added. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.” He then revealed more details about their upcoming wedding in a recent appearance on the Zach Sang Show, telling the host, “I mean, we are getting married in France, so a lot of Coors Light is necessary.”
It is unclear if they will have a wedding in France after the one in Vegas. Joe then added of their wedding, “We got most of it figured out already. There are parts of it that I think just naturally is stressful, but you just have to allow yourself to enjoy the fact that you’re doing this. It’s not really about all the little minor details, it’s going to be great and things are gonna go wrong, but I enjoy planning stuff.”
