Birthdays are quite exciting for all of us, aren't they? Well, it wasn't for Monique, a stunning, 2-year-old tabby, who had to celebrate her birthday all alone because nobody turned up to her party, reports People. According to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, a U.K.-based animal rescue, Monique has been at the rescue’s South London shelter for over 115 days. Since then, she's been waiting to find her forever home. It was the shelter's idea to throw the tabby cat a birthday party.

The shelter hoped that the birthday party would give a prospective pet parent some encouragement to adopt her, reports Metro. The rescue home hyped up Monique's birthday party, in hopes of attracting more people, but no one showed up to Monique’s big day. The place was all decked up and included a 'Happy Birthday' banner and special toys for the feline. What's even disheartening is that Monique hasn't even received a single adoption request after the party. “It’s always a shame to see one of our cats be repeatedly overlooked, especially one so young and with so much to offer as a pet,” Battersea’s cattery team leader, Chrissie Grindrod, said.

“Monique is a gentle soul who thrives with human company, whether that be playing with her favorite toys together or curling up side by side on the sofa.” According to Battersea, Monique is playful, affectionate, loves adventure and wants to be your best friend. The cat is also positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). “FIV is a slow-acting virus and most cats live long happy and healthy lives,” Battersea writes on Monique’s adoption profile. “However, in order to protect other cats and to preserve the health of the carrier, Battersea rehomes FIV+ cats to homes with cat proof gardens. Also, due to her FIV+ status, Monique will need to be the only pet in the household.”

Battersea is even willing to help people ready to adopt Monique help cat-proof their gardens if that's the reason that's holding them back. Monique's bio also says: Magnificent Monique is patiently awaiting her forever home at Battersea. Her beauty speaks for itself, but there is more to this unique girl than meets the eye. She has an adorable gentle nature and a lot of affection to give, once she feels safe and settled. Monique loves spending time with her human friends and enjoys leaping around her pen when they play with her favorite string toy. She also loves a good head and chin rub, and will let you know just how much by purring away in delight!

Monique longs for a home and garden of her own where she can play until her hearts’ content and snooze away on her new family’s warm laps. Monique is looking for an enclosed garden she can access via a cat flap. Jess Dawn Ford shared on Facebook: I don’t live in the UK but it someone else does and sees this please pick yourself up a furever pal. she looks so precious I wish I could take her home. What a good girl! Someone give her some love! I hope the animal shelter workers help her live a long and happy life. FIV+ is no reason not to give your love to her. Christina Peplow added: Oh no I hate these kinds of stories. I'd grab her in my arms in seconds if I could and she'd get so many parties, she'd be tired of them fast and just want to snooze on a nice comfortable blanket for the rest of the day. Sending prayers and love to you beautiful that you find your forever home very soon.
