Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson has been declared as the world's handsome man as per science, according to plastic surgeon Dr. Julian De Silva, who runs the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery in London. De Silva based this on the Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi which measures physical perfection.

This Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi dates back to the European Rennaisance. Known as the "Golden Ratio",  this was used as a tool by artists and architects when creating their work. It was even used by Leonardo Da Vinci for his masterpiece - the Vitruvian Man. According to De Silva, "The premise behind this is that the closer the ratios of a face or body are to the number 1.618 (Phi), the more beautiful they become."

According to People, 33-year-old Pattinson took the crown after De Silva looked at the physical proportions of his face "using the latest computerized mapping techniques." Yahoo reports that "his eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips, chin, jaw and facial shape were measured against other celebrities and his make-up meant he came closest to the ancient Greeks’ idea of perfection." Pattinson scored a 92.15 percent.

In his Instagram post, De Silva wrote: Robert Pattinson was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection. He added: These brand new computer mapping techniques allow us to solve some of the mysteries of what it is that makes someone physically beautiful and the technology is useful when planning patients' surgery.

So, who were the other contenders who made it to this list? Coming a close second was Henry Cavill who scored 91.64 percent. Bradley Cooper took third place with 91.08 percent followed by Brad Pitt who received 90.15 percent. 58-year-old George Clooney who was the previous winner slipped down to fifth place because he grew old. De Silva said, "the effect of ageing resulted in a loss of volume in the face, giving him a score of 89.91%".  David Beckham took seventh place with a score of 88.96 percent. He is said to have "the most chiseled chin in the top ten and had a near-perfect ratio in the size of his nose and his lips."
