Two litters were found abandoned and they both had puppies along with the mum. The pups were so young that they hadn't even opened their eyes yet.
In another heartbreaking incident of animal cruelty, animal rescuers found a mother and her puppies tied up in a plastic bag and left to die on the side of the road. If you think this is bad, it gets worse. A little ahead on the same road, they found another litter in the same condition. According to Daily Mail, the incident occurred in Bachau, Romania. The rescue footage shows the scared and whimpering mother perched on the side of the road with her babies who didn't appear to be older than a week. They're so young that they haven't even opened their eyes. Some of them were even trying to suckle from their mom. Who could be so heartless?
The mother pup seems to have a broken leg and has also lost her eyesight, due to an injury. Laura Myatt, 32, one of the rescuers who spotted them next to the plastic bag. She strongly believes they were dumped by someone who did not want them. Larua took to Sadies Stray Dog Rescue, a Facebook page she manages, to share the horrifying experience of coming across the mom and her pups.
The post read: "As we drove past, out the corner of my eye I saw her, I thought she’d been dumped and was either injured or scared, remaining in the ditch... but as we went back, we realized she wasn’t alone. She was nursing her 4 newborn puppies, next to a bag, they were most probably dumped in. What if we hadn’t have spotted her? What if we hadn’t have taken this road today? Can’t bear to think of how they would have survived in the middle of nowhere, so cold, wet and hungry. Mummy and babies... you are safe now."
However, they weren't done. "There was another update: I don’t think you’ll quite believe it because we didn’t... and we were there. But 10 minutes after saving the dear little Mummy with her newborn puppies, we found another desperate case. I felt the need for Bobo to pull over into a lay-by, where we’ve taken many souls from before, I spotted a Black female that was limping, her back leg was hanging in fact."
"The closer I got, I could see she was a mummy, I checked and she had milk but the question was, where were her puppies? Had she been dumped without them or were they close by waiting for her? We each set off in search, to try to be as sure as possible that we weren’t leaving her babies behind... Bobo and the girls crossed over the road and to our amazement, they found her babies. 5 little babies next to a box, all huddled together but alive and well. Mummy was so relieved to be reunited with her babies... we were all understandably emotional wrecks."
Sadie's Stray Dog Rescue was set up by a Lesley Ford, 52, who wanted to do something to end the plight of these stray dogs who have no one to help them. She used to neuter dogs at public shelters for free knowing that they couldn't afford it and it led to her starting her own shelter. Leslie, along with her full-time job as a business consultant, manages the shelter, as well.
"It seems shocking but what has really been shocking to us is the attention it has got. To us, it's not unusual. Every day we pick them up. Often puppies are dumped on their own, but in this case, the mothers were dumped with them. Generally, the dogs are just left to die in appalling conditions," she said. There are as many as 150 puppies in its rescue center, at any given time and all of them are in need of forever homes, along with food and medication. Any help can go a long way with them!
