Puppy miraculously survived an attack by a hawk. He fought the bird mid-air and was dropped on the ground and now suffers mild facial injuries.
Hawks are one of the most vicious predators in the air in today's world and when they spot their prey, they will do whatever they can to make sure that they get it. One lucky puppy recently just got away from the claws of death. He is now being called the "miracle puppy" by people across the internet but his foster owners, however, have given him a very interesting name. He is now called Tony Hawk, after the incident that took place. Well, one way to deal with trauma is by laughter, right? Or we could just see it as the puppy carrying the incident in his name like wearing a badge of honor. Sounds like a military pup now, doesn't he? 'Major Puppy Tony Hawk' (in the voice of Andre Braugher).
Tony Hawk, who is now being dubbed as the 'miracle puppy' is a Texan Chihuahua who survived the vicious hawk attack. After the attack, the puppy was rushed to the vet where doctors said that he got lucky and suffers only a few mild facial injuries. After the incident, the puppy went on to recover and at the same time find a new foster home. The new family was the ones who came up with the name Tony Hawk, based on his ordeal. Now, Tony Hawk has gone viral for aerial trick again, but this time with a hawk and not a skateboard.
On January 12, earlier this year, Tony Hawk was rescued by an animal shelter in Austin. The shelter said that he was lucky to have still been alive after the bird swooped through the air and snatched the little pup (he weighs somewhere around just a pound) and then dropped him mid-air. Austin Animal Center, in an interview with Unilad, said, "We’d like to introduce you to this nugget, who we’ve all taken to calling “Miracle Puppy”." They further added, "This teeny tiny guy was picked up by a hawk and then subsequently dropped from mid-air. It’s a miracle that he not only survived but that the wounds on his head and chest are fairly mild."
"This sweetie is now recovering in a foster home for the next few weeks," they said. The animal shelter has tried to reach out to as many pet owners as they could and warned them to watch out for other preying animals around, like hawks. "Let Miracle Puppy’s story be a reminder to protect your small pets from wildlife!" they said. "Hawks, owls, and coyotes will prey on small animals, even in your fenced backyard. If you have small pets, keep eyes on them at all times while outside." Ever since the incident took place, Tony Hawk has been taken in by the shelter.
Recently, a foster family decided to adopt him and picked him up from the shelter to take him to his new home, hopefully, a place that doesn't have a lot of big and dangerous birds around. After the story went viral a lot of people started to contact the shelter and offered to take care of Tony, or even just called to check on his health. The shelter concluded the story by putting up a post that read, "His foster reports that he’s doing amazing and is as sweet as can be! They’ve received TONS of adoption applications, so once he’s big and strong, he’ll be going home with a new family, which means applications are officially closed for this little nugget."
"BUT so many of Tony Hawk’s friends at the shelter are still looking for their forever family," they finally added. The Austin Animal Center is home to a lot of animals who are in search of foster owners who can provide them with a new home and undivided attention that they deserve. They encourage animal lovers to come and visit the pets on a regular and even hold meetings between them and their potential pets to see how they gel before letting the animals go into a completely new environment.
Hawk attacks are not an easy thing to deal with. This puppy got really lucky as the hawk let go of him, even though he did fall to the ground he is still alive. Many times people end up losing their pups to these aerial predators. Here are a few tips in case you live in an area where there are a lot of birds around and are wondering how to keep your dogs safe. First, make sure they always have a leash on when you are outside and make sure to supervise them. Second, put shiny objects that move out in the yard, birds are more attracted to them. Or you could just build a mesh roof over your yard so your pet can play around freely.
Hawks are very dangerous predators. They spot their prey from miles away and make sure to get what they want. They catch their prey with large talons and it takes them just one bite with their beak to kill the animal. They aren't dangerous to little pups but also to humans, especially when they are nesting. They tend to be overly protective of their offsprings so if you are even close to their nest then you're in for a lot of trouble. Otherwise, they just snatch your food out of your hands when you least expect it.
