Starving Puppy Dumped On Roadside Never Left The Spot, Hoping His Owner Would Come Back

A puppy had been dumped on the side of the road with a chair and TV. The poor dog thought his owner would come back for him and didn't move from the spot.

There are some cruel acts that just irritate and upset you regardless of who you are. Take this poor little doggo for instance. He was left on the side of the road along with an armchair and a TV by his owner. The dog stayed right where he was abandoned hoping that his owner would come back for him.

But on Monday morning, animal control officer Sharon Norton was alerted to this saddening scene along a quiet stretch of road in Lincoln County, Mississippi. Once Officer Norton reached the spot and found the small puppy clinging to dear life atop a chair, next to which a TV had also been left behind.

It was reported that a local guy saw the malnourished dog sitting on the brown chair along a road in Brookhaven, Mississippi, and rang the local animal control officer to summon help.  The dog was starving but had evidently refused to budge, likely believing that the person who placed him there would surely return for him.

Sharon told in an interview that as she approached the puppy and tried to reassure it with some food and affection, the little dog felt relieved and warmed up to her almost immediately.

"He looks like he's been there for about a week, He is skin and bones!." she exclaimed. "He was very happy when I picked him up and carried him to the animal control truck," Norton said. "I could feel his tail hitting my back, wagging. He knows he's safe now." From these findings, it's clear that the puppy did not understand what had taken place. The animal control official says that the animal was waiting in the chair as if they fully expected their mother to come back for them.

Norton has since been vaccinated and dewormed the dog and placed him in the safety of the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League in Mississippi. The dog will then be put up for adoption – with Norton and other locals keen to ensure his new owners take better care of him.

Unfortunately, Norton said, this case of abandonment isn't the worst she's seen -- but, in spreading the word about it, she's optimistic that justice will be served. "I'm hoping somebody that recognizes the puppy and the recliner will put two and two together and send me a message to help me find the person that did this," she said.

While there is nothing wrong with leaving some old and unwanted items on the side of the road for others to enjoy, there is something perverse about choosing to treat a dog this way. The puppy did not understand what had taken place. It's inhuman to treat animals this way, especially when we have such dominion over them. They look up to us to be taken care of, and not doing so is, in fact, a betrayal of their trust.

This isn't the first time we hear of such horrible acts taking place. Dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs and all sorts of pets get abandoned all over the country. It's a question to ask now whether any citizen ought to be eligible to freely take the life of an animal into their hands. Maybe it's about time we introduce a better way to ensure that such horrible crimes never take place. This puppy was lucky that it was found and saved at the earliest, sometimes dogs prove to be too loyal for their own good and have been spotted starving to death on the same spot where they were abandoned.
