Parents Dump Their Sons Aged 3 And 2, Naked, At A Homeless Shelter

After spending a week at a squalid homeless camp in Zaporizhia, southern Ukraine, the kids were found by the authorities.

A couple left their young toddlers at a squalid homeless camp to wander cluelessly among drunkards just so they "could get some rest." Andrey, 3, and his younger brother Maksim, 2, spent a week among vagrants in Zaporizhia, southern Ukraine before authorities discovered them. According to the Mirror, the parents approached a 42-year-old homeless man named Sergey, who ended up taking care of the kids who were left naked there. Recalling the incident he said, "A young couple came and asked to look after their children."

Describing the condition in which they were left, he continued, "The boys were completely naked and barefooted." Although the emotionless parents promised to come back for their little tots, they never showed up. "The parents said they would go to a shop to buy some food and be back in 20 minutes. Then they went away and never came back, said Sergey recalling their conversation. Thankfully, the homeless man was kind enough to share his limited amount of food with the boys. He even made it a point to keep an eye on them and prevent them from getting n harm's way.

Fortunately, Olena Tashevska happened to spot the two on August 26. After witnessing the kids' horrible condition she at once notified the police. "I had leisure time and went to the Dnipro river. I was looking for a place to sunbathe when I stumbled on the hobos' camp," Tashevska said adding, "I was terrified to see two little boys lying there on filthy blankets. They were naked and extremely dirty. I immediately called the police." Soon police officers arrived at the scene with paramedics who closely examined the children and dressed them while the law enforcement officers interviewed the fellow homeless people.

"The children lived like 'Mowgli' boys," revealed police spokeswoman, Dina Kurnikova. "They did not wear any clothes and drank water from the river. The boys were constantly hungry and foraged for food on the nearest beach delving into litter bins." Andrey and Maksim were then rushed to a hospital where they were diagnosed with malnutrition and cold. "The boys suffer from viral infectious disease and malnutrition," said Taisa Klimenko, a Paediatrician from Zaporizhia Children's Hospital 1.

"They are weak now and can barely walk. The children know their names and ages. They do not ask at all about their parents," added Klimenko. After launching an investigation into the matter, the police zeroed in on the parents and identified Bozhena Synychka, 20, to be their mother and Volodymyr Zaitsev, 25, their father. According to local media reports, the couple informed the police that "they got tired of looking after the boys and needed to have some rest." According to The Sun, both Synychka and Zaitsev earn a living by scavenging for scrap metal and selling it.

Now, the police officials have begun a criminal investigation against the duo for failing to fulfill their duties as a parent. The couple is looking at a jail time of up to five years if found guilty of the charges. As per reports, local social services are planning on suing these negligent parents for their gross behavior and depriving them of every parental right. As for the kids, Andrey and Maksim, they will be placed in an orphanage until the court gives a verdict.
