Bride And Groom Stop Wedding, Take Guests To Target To Shop For Underprivileged Kids

The couple held a very small and intimate wedding with just about 100 guests. Each of them was given envelopes with gift cards inside them.

Getting married is a major milestone in one's life. It is a special day for the couple involved although it is preceded by a lot of stress during the run-up to the wedding. Well, there are very few people who would prioritize anything else over their weddings but this couple from Florida did. At their wedding, they asked their guests to be a part of their unique tradition. This tradition involved giving gifts to the less fortunate children. The couple who got married in December last year welcomed all their wedding guests to drive down along with them to a local Target store to shop for the holidays. The couple that hails from Orlando decided to go holiday shopping not for themselves but for all the children that are part of the Toys for Tots charity.

While most couples spend their time together by going out on special date nights or a vacation away for their anniversary, Brad and Jessica opt for another kind of date night that involves shopping for kids who are part of the Toys for Tots charity. They have been doing so ever since they're dating days.

According to News 13, during the wedding, Brad announced, "On our anniversary, we go and we shop for Toys for Tots, and we donate it." He further added, "So today on our wedding day, we want to start our wedding in the same way, but we want all of you to join us." They had a very small and intimate wedding with around 100 guests present on their big day. Each of them were given envelopes with Target gift cards inside them.

According to WSAV, Brad and Jessica first started donating to Toys and Tots charity around seven years ago. They started on their very first date when Brad took Jessica out shopping for gifts. In an interview with them, she said, "It’s something that has been a tradition for us, like, ever since we started dating." According to Brad, this was the best way of showing something so personal to the woman who had stolen his heart, and the woman he knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

"We pulled in the parking lot of Target," Brad said, "[and] I explained my parents have always made Christmas special for me." The couple made the announcement after they shared their first dance together (after getting married). They then handed out $10 Target gift cards to each of the guests present at the wedding and left to go to Target in their wedding attire. All they were focused on was shopping for the underprivileged children that the charity takes care of.

In an interview with WSAV, Brad said, "If we can make some kids smile on Christmas, didn’t matter if it was one day or a relationship, it was successful." At first, he didn't know how to pitch the idea to Jessica because he wasn't sure she would want to go to Target in her wedding gown. To his surprise, she lit up when he suggested the idea. At the end of the wedding charity shopping spree, Target donated a cart full of toys to the newlyweds so they could give more to the children.

The charity began in 1947 after the Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks pushed for it to happen. His wife used to make dolls and used to give them to him to go and donate to the children in need to an organization that was reliable and sure to deliver the toys to kids. He couldn't find one and when he told his wife about this, she urged him to start one. After a successful campaign, all Marine Reserve Sites were instructed to implement the program a year later. Now, Toys for Tots distributes around 10 million toys to over 7 million children every year.
