Following multiple incidents of pranksters licking bluebell ice-cream and placing it back, a man in Texas has also done the same but insists he bought the tub and is innocent.
We're sure that people are starting to get really frustrated behind the pranksters licking ice-cream tubs and placing it back on the shelf. Though they are mostly dares or social media challenges that want to go viral on the internet, the fact remains that such acts are in violation of public health and sanitary laws.
Recently, another incident occurred where a man in Port Arthur, Texas was seen removing a container of Blue Bell ice-cream from a Walmart freezer, licking the frozen dessert and placing it back on the shelf. The incident took place on Monday night, when a user identified as "Dapper Don" uploaded the 20-second video on Facebook where he is seen licking the ice-cream from a tub and placing it back on the store shelf with the lid replaced.
This is overplayed, kids! Y’all went and overplayed yourselves right into jail— Brenda (@BitesCalifornia) August 23, 2019
The now-viral video is making rounds on social media, much to the outrage of most people. An accomplice can be heard chuckling in the background, apparently filming and yelling, “Come on, let’s go, let’s go! Hurry up!” The prankster has since received harsh criticism and even threats on social media for this immature act. As of Friday, the video, having the caption “Happy National Soft Ice Cream Day #viral,” has since been viewed over 80,000 times.
It takes one idiot to start an idiotic trend! The only difference is, he is an adult and can be charged as a felon! What makes this really stupid is the guy filming it is encouraging it. Police have however confirmed that the man did indeed purchase the very same ice-cream tub that he tampered with. According to 12 News Now, the Port Arthur Police Department contacted 'Don' a few hours after he shared the video to Facebook, and the man was able to provide a receipt for the ice cream detailing his purchase.
The man and his father also returned to Walmart to show officers his receipt for the ice cream. The man's father says his son was just trying to get Facebook likes. "I trolled all Southeast Texas," Don told 12 News, adding that he often pulls off “pranks” for social media videos.
"We take it very, very seriously. I know the district attorney takes it very seriously. So hopefully in the next 24 hours, we'll have all our evidence gathered, and we'll walk it over to the district attorney's office," said Detective Mike Hebert with the Port Arthur Police Department.
Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso told 12News Tuesday morning that currently no charges have been filed but they are waiting on the district attorney's office to review the case. If Don is proven to be guilty, then he could be charged with Tampering with a Consumer Product, which would result in a 2 to 20-year prison sentence,
Pretty soon, ice cream will be located behind the counter with the liquor at the grocery store, and you'll need some form of ID to buy it! Thanks, Millennials! Couldn't just stick to the Tide Pods, huh?— Andrew Hooley (@andrewhooley) August 23, 2019
Regardless of whether the man did indeed purchase the product or not, Blue Bell authorities are determined to take no chances and have removed all the half-gallon varieties of the same flavor that the man licked from their shelves. “The safety of our ice cream is our highest priority, and we work hard to maintain the highest level of confidence of our customers,” a spokesperson for the brand said. “We view the tampering of our products very seriously.”

Walmart authorities also stressed that food-tampering is no “joke” and warned that they will cooperate with law enforcement on all such related investigations in the future. “If food is tampered with, or a customer wants to leave the impression that they left behind the adulterated product, we will move quickly with law enforcement to identify, apprehend and prosecute those who think this is a joke — it is not,” a Wallmart rep told 12News.
Is there something I’m missing? Is it really that cool to lick a tub of ice cream?— Pooja Lodhia (@PoojaOnTV) August 21, 2019
