The poll revealed that 46% of younger siblings actually believe they're funnier than their elder siblings while only 36% of the older sibling think they're funnier than their younger siblings.
When it comes to siblings, there's as much love as there is rivalry. There are a lot of studies based on siblings, too, but one such study by YouGov claims that younger siblings are a lot funnier than their older siblings. 1,783 adult siblings were surveyed to assess their personality traits based on birth order and its findings are quite interesting. The poll revealed that 46% of younger siblings actually believe they're funnier than their elder siblings while only 36% of the older sibling think they're funnier than their younger siblings. It was also discovered there one clear factor in which a divide arose: responsibilities.
54 percent of first-born children believe they are more responsible than their younger siblings. The poll also found that oldest siblings (54%) feel more organized than their younger siblings (43%). Since the older siblings are more organized and responsible than the younger siblings, it comes as no surprise that the younger lot was more laid back and easy going in comparison!
The comments were filled with people tagging their older and younger siblings, with some gloating about being the funniest, while the others were in disbelief over the findings of the poll. A user named Emily Baitch wrote: There was never any doubt in my mind. Not only funnier but better looking and smarter... ok the last two are a total lie but I am definitely the funniest. Safe to assume Emily is the younger one in the family.
Mothers were coming forward to admit to the study, with TaSchema writing: True for mines. My oldest tries so hard to be funny. And my youngest will have you in stitches without even trying. Katie agreed: This is soooo true!! My youngest is such a goofball always trying to make her oldest sister laugh. Another mother named Alma wrote: My older son is the funny one. My youngest is shy.
Surprisingly, a lot of younger siblings also commented saying they don't buy this because according to them, their older sibling was way funnier than they ever could be. Angel wrote: So wrong! My older sister was so much more fun than me! Some people, who were obviously the middle child, wanted to know what happened to them, and how do they fall on the funny chart! They were evidently ignored.
Also, younger kids teach the older ones how to be empathetic, reveals another study! Till not, it's always been assumed that the older siblings' are responsible and the younger siblings don't have to do anything, but it seems you have to credit the younger sibling for making you empathetic and not an a$$hole. “Although it’s assumed that older siblings and parents are the primary socializing influences on younger siblings’ development, not vice versa, we found that both younger and older siblings positively contributed to each other’s empathy over time,” study co-author Marc Jambon, postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto, said in a statement.
Younger siblings are known to be pampered and usually get what they want while the older one would have had to make all the sacrifices for them, like sharing their toys with their younger brother or sister even if they did not want to, but does that mean the older ones are jealous of their younger sibling? Maybe. Caryssa, a Psychologist took to Quora and wrote that she's jealous of her younger sibling at times.
I’d say I’m a little jealous of my younger brother from time to time. The oldest sibling usually gets the harshest punishments and the most strict parenting, and my case is an example of that. Any time there’s a conflict between me and my brother, I’m automatically wrong according to my parents because I’m the older one. My childhood was denied on several occasions just because I was the oldest. I wasn’t allowed to do everything he could, and that included being a child. I’m only 2 and a half years older than him, and I never wanted to grow up, she wrote.
