Her husband's parents claimed they got the paternity test done without their consent because they wanted to do what's best for their son.
The topic of in-laws is quite tricky for many of us, isn't it? Their intentions might be pure, but sometimes, it ends up being over the top or just plain insensitive. This is the story of a woman who felt quite insulted after her partner's parents took their newborn baby to get a paternity test done, just to be sure that their son, was in fact, the father of the baby. The scorned woman took to Reddit to share her story, asking other Redditors if she was wrong in cutting off her boyfriend's parents after the insulting incident. The woman, 22, and her boyfriend, 23, have been in an on-and-off relationship for four years. She says that like any relationship, the two of them have had their fair share of problems, but their biggest issue in the relationship is his parents.
Apparently, he comes from a well-to-do family and she doesn't so his parents always made their thoughts vocal, saying that she was only after his money. However, six months ago, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, and though it was unplanned, it was love at first sight for both of them. Soon, there were bigger battles for her to fight, thanks to her boyfriend's parents. His parents were pissed about this and from the start of my pregnancy kept trying to say that they didn’t think it was my boyfriend's baby. My boyfriend did his best to keep them civil but they are truly unbearable people and could never keep their mouth shut.
But, once their daughter was born, the woman was pleasantly surprised to see his parents do a great job at being good grandparents. They offered to keep her tons when we needed breaks and really helped us out when buying the things she needed. Always returning her with new outfits, bottles, toys, etc. One day, when her boyfriend came home, he seemed really livid. That's when he revealed that his parents had taken their little angel for a paternity test without telling either parent, just because they wanted confirmation that their son was, in fact, the baby's father. Of course, the results came back that my boyfriend was her father but he was pissed they would even do something like that without our consent.
The woman lost it, and no one blames her for it. I called his parents and immediately told them they were cut off. I told them I don’t need their money and I’m disgusted that they would stoop so low. I said I didn’t want my daughter around people that thought so little of me and would obviously only try and convince her of the nonsense they think about me. They “apologized” and said they only wanted what was best for their son and that I couldn’t blame them for trying to be good parents. She had no choice but to hang up on them while they tried to justify that them taking the child out to get a paternity test without consent was okay.
It's not like his parents have been nice to her from the start. She mentions that they've hurled abuses at her and even offered her money to dump their son. She does agree that they have been good grandparents to the baby, but after this incident, she just can't think of them being in the same room as the baby. My boyfriend is pretty understanding why I’m mad but is begging me to reconsider because they do help a lot and he does love his parents even though they suck. I just don’t think I can let my daughter be around them. Now, all they do is badmouth her to their son and make sly comments about her parenting skills. They also post a lot of stuff about her indirectly on social media, but though they were good grandparents, it's just not enough for her to forgive them.
