Heartbroken Beagle Mom Adopts Abandoned Baby Possum As Her Own After All Her Puppies Died

Molly the Beagle was quite heartbroken when her litter of puppies died right after birth. But the universe sent a huge source of comfort her way in the form of a tiny possum.

Molly the Beagle was preparing to welcome a litter of pups at her cattle ranch home west of Melbourne, Australia, when life dealt her a devastating deal. The adorable beagle mama was left heartbroken when all her little pups died during birth. However, as they say, with every low comes a high, and in Molly's case, it happened to be in the form of a baby possum. It was almost as if the universe felt the grieving dog mama's pain and decided to send a source of comfort her way. How else do you explain an adorable baby marsupial who was abandoned by her mother, walking into Molly's life just days after she lost her puppies?

According to a report by 9News, Molly's owners the Moyles revealed that the possum simply jumped on to their beagle's back one fine day and made herself at home. And being the doting mother that she is, Molly quite happily adopted the possum, lovingly christened Poss by the Moyles. Gushing about the heartwarming relationship between the two furry friends, Molly's owners, Elle and Sara Moyle said, "They've been inseparable ever since." Molly's pet parents also observed that it's almost as if Poss and Molly think they share an actual mother-daughter relationship. "They're an unlikely pair, and I think that possum thought Mol was her mother and vice versa," said Moyle.

And as you can imagine, Mol and Poss make quite the adorable pair. Having baby Poss to care for has helped the beagle mom indulge her maternal instincts, thereby not leaving the orphaned possum to fend for herself. Navigating the huge ranch on her baby paws isn't easy for Poss and the furry best friends have found the perfect solution for this dilemma. Poss hitches a ride on her adopted mother's back, who's more than happy to chaperone the little one around the property. Trust me, it's quite the endearing sight to watch the two of them strut around like two peas in a pod. Take a look at this video and tell me you can stop yourself from making googly eyes at the screen.

The aww-factor in this relationship doesn't end here. Molly takes her mama duties quite seriously. More than just care for her possum friend when she's on her back, Mol has put herself on mom duties around the clock. Being a nocturnal creature, Poss spends the better part of her day curled up sleeping in trees across the ranch. And rather than go about her business during that time, Molly's owners say that she hangs around whichever tree her possum baby is napping in, keeping an eye on her tiny friend throughout the day. "Molly just sits under the tree where she's sleeping and just waits for her," says Elle.

Meanwhile, Sara is quite happy that Poss came into Molly's life. She noticed that having the baby marsupial around has lifted the beagle's spirits considerably. "It's certainly uplifted her mood, they both needed each other I think. So it's been a fantastic relationship," she remarks. And unlike other members of her species, Molly's support has made Poss quite comfortable around humans. She has no qualms about letting the Moyles pet her while she's on Molly's back and sometimes even goes as far into the house with her furball friend. Can this relationship get any more aww-dorable?

While no one can say for sure how long Poss plans to hang around, the Moyles definitely don't have any plans to send her away. Maybe she'll grow up one day and decide to get off Molly's back (quite literally, in this case), or the two of them might just go down in history as the best fur buddies the world has ever seen. It probably the biggest understatement ever when they say we don't deserve dogs, isn't it? These four-legged furry beings are truly a species unlike any other. The kind of selflessness and unconditional love dogs portray can rarely be found anywhere else.

These very traits could be the reason why these furballs are able to forge some very unlikely friendships with other members in the animal kingdom. And these unexpected animal friendships are just so heartwarming that we've all spent hours on the internet collectively going "aww." While I am partial to 'man's best friend,' Molly and Poss have tough competition for the position of the most adorable animal besties. In another instance of unlikely friendships, one comes from a bird and chameleon pair that's been going viral in a hilarious video of their first meeting. The owner decided to introduce his pet caique to his 6-year-old chameleon Santaro, and watch it unfold.

The Tokyo-based pet parent described the video thus: "I have 2 white bellied caiques and originally I had 30 chameleons all hatched in my house after warming the eggs for 6 months without expecting them to hatch. He is one of them. The others, I donated to a school, zoo etc. He is 6-years-old now, possibly one of the oldest in Japan. For the first time, out of curiosity, I put my bird and the Chameleon, Santaro, together to see what would happen and the rest is caught on the video."
