The lovebirds who have been in an on-again-off-again relationship for nine years surprised fans when they wed in December 2018. However, their marriage did not last long, and they split after being together for eight months.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth surprised fans when they decided to tie the knot at their Nashville home in December 2018 in a low-key ceremony. However, just shy of a year, the pair have decided to call it quits. On Sunday, news of their separation hit the media. "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time," Cyrus’ rep told TODAY in a statement. "Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
Even before an official statement was given by the rep, rumors of their separation had begun making the rounds as Miley took to her Instagram account to post pictures sans her wedding ring. For better or for worse, a mere hours before the news of their split, Miley Cyrus was spotted kissing Brody Jenner’s ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter in Italy reports People. A source revealed that Cyrus and Carter have common friends and were "just having fun" together in an exclusive with People.
Meanwhile, Liam Hemsworth has been laying low and spending some quality time with his elder brother Chris Hemsworth. He too has been photographed without his wedding band. When Daily Mail Australia approached Hemsworth for a comment about the split, the 29-year-old actor who was out with big brother Chris and the Thor star's three children on Monday, he replied, "You don't understand what it's like. I don't want to talk about it, mate."
Taking to his Instagram account, Liam cleared the air on the separation. He wrote, "Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love."
Rumor has it that Liam was also embarrassed by the way that Miley behaved in public. This is not the first time that this news has popped up. First in 2012, and now, most recently at the Met Gala and The Avengers movie premiere. According to Yahoo News, a source close to the couple said that they were having trouble in the relationship, and it was because of the singer's odd behavior on the red carpet at Met Gala.
"Liam knows that Miley is a free spirit, but sometimes she goes too far," the source said after Miley was pictured licking Liam's face. "She was licking his face for the cameras on the red carpet, then grinding on people on the dance floor inside and grabbing her crotch.” The insider went on to say that Miley’s antics "turned off" Liam, who "doesn’t like that side of her". Months after the wedding, during an interview, Cyrus opened up about how she doesn't really fit into the stereotypical "wife role."
She admitted, "I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married. But my relationship is unique. I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it. I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a f—ing apron cooking dinner? I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women."
Cyrus added, "People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f–ing good, and I know that. I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word." The lovebirds met on the sets of The Last Song, a movie they both starred in 2009, and had an on-again-off-again relationship that lasted for about nine years.
In 2012, Hemsworth proposed to Miley when he was just 22, and she, 19, but they called off the engagement a year later. But, despite their troublesome start to the relationship, they rekindled their romance in 2015 and kept details of their relationship quiet until December 2018. That's when they decided to take the plunge and married in a low-key wedding over the holiday with just their close friends and family present.
Miley Cyrus said she realized Liam was the one for her after the California wildfires destroyed their home. "My relationship is very special to me; it is my 'home,'" she explained in an essay for Vanity Fair. "I feel less misplaced when we are in the same room, no matter where that is ... What Liam and I went through together changed us." The Hannah Montana star also got candid with Elle about another important factor: children.
Miley explained that she wasn't really keen on having children, especially in the kind of world that we're living in now. "We’re getting handed a piece-of-s--- planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child. Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I’m not bringing in another person to deal with that," she said.
Miley has turned to nature to seek some zen and peace in the wake of her split. Her latest post on social media reads: Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win. Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once underwater, connected with Africa, change is inevitable. The Dolomites were not created overnight, it was over millions of years that this magnificent beauty was formed.
