The post went viral on Facebook. "The point in this is always be kind and be nice to people," wrote one of the men who saw the woman dining alone at a restaurant in Alabama
Humans are social beings. We cannot survive alone, we'll get lonely within a few days or weeks and start to go mad. We just need company, that's how we are. That's probably why people tend to spend so much time with someone they love and that's probably the whole idea of marriage, being there for each other through thick and thin. Growing old together sounds beautiful because you know you will not be lonely for the last few decades of your life. Being lonely is not something anyone likes to experience and these three black men from Alabama understand that better than most others. These three men from Alabama have gone viral on Facebook for their random act of kindness. They happened to see an elderly woman having a meal alone in a restaurant and just couldn't deal with it. They moved over to join and give her company because nobody deserves to eat alone.
Jamario Howard was out for dinner with friends JaMychol Baker and Tae Knight when he noticed the elderly woman sitting all by herself at Brad’s Bar-B-Que in Oxford. My exact thought was, ‘Dang I’d hate to have to eat alone, Howard wrote on Facebook Thursday. So after thinking about it a minute, I walked over to her and asked if I could sit with her. He wasn't just trying to be polite, it was a genuine act of kindness. Nobody likes to be alone, or rather eat alone. That is something that nobody enjoys doing, not on a regular basis at least.
The best part about Howard's efforts to make the woman feel happy by giving her company was that it came at the perfect time in her life! The elderly lady told the group of men that she was a widow and she was eating outside in honor of her upcoming wedding anniversary! The group was moved when they found out. This made their act of kindness a whole lot more meaningful. She said yes and we talked for a minute and after a while of talking she told me she lost her husband and that tomorrow would have been their 60th anniversary, Howard wrote. I instantly gave my condolences and asked her to come eat with us, which she was excited to do.
I like knowing that there are still good, kind-hearted, compassionate people in our world. ❤️— Natasha Chee (@NatashaChee) April 25, 2019
Howard, 23, said dining with the woman changed his outlook on how he views strangers. This incident has surely moved a lot of people after the post went viral. The viral post has been shared more than 58,000 times and has more than 20,000 comments, many of which praise the young men. Howard encourages people who have read the post to not only embrace kindness with strangers but the people they know as well. He also encourages people to go visit their parents and other family members, to go spend time with them.
The point in this is always be kind and be nice to people. You never know what they are going through,” he wrote. “Everyone has a story so do not judge! And people I can’t stress this enough. GO SEE YOUR MOM AND YOUR GRANDPARENTS. They miss you!! In an interview with NBC News, Howard said that the woman's name was Eleanor. During their dinner conversation, Eleanor apparently spoke about her grandchildren. She even spoke about the volunteer work she does at the local hospital. Howard even mentioned that he has seen Eleanor after their dinner together and the two of them plan to keep in touch.
We surely need more people like this in the world. Everyone is so engrossed in their own lives and the lives of their friends that sometimes we forget to see that there are people who are in need. Such acts of kindness are rare to come across. If you think about it, meeting a stranger like this and helping them out makes you feel good too. It's a win-win situation.
