Matthew McConaughey Was Invited To His Own Wedding By Wife Who Got Tired Of His Busy Schedule: "Be There"

It was love at first sight for McConaughey who now is happily married to Camila Alves and is enjoying his life with their three kids.

Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Brazilian model Camila Alves have proven that it's possible to have a long-lasting and strong relationship in Hollywood having been together for over seven years. The 49-year-old actor is equally romantic offscreen as he is onscreen, and his love story with his wife is a proof of that. The pair first laid eyes on each other back in 2006 when they were at a nightclub in New York. The heartthrob didn't hesitate to make the first move as it was love at first sight for him.

"I went in my head, 'This is not the kind of woman you call over across the room, McConaughey. Get your ass out of your chair and go get her.' Which I did," he said according to Fabiosa. However, Camila wasn't ready to fall for his charming looks that easily. Thankfully, they got together and later on welcomed their first child, Levi, in 2008. And then two years later, in 2010, they were excited to bring a beautiful baby girl, Vida, into this world. For quite some time, the couple was happy not tying the knot because to them these were mere legal formalities and had nothing to do with the love they had for each other.

But all that changed in 2011 when McConaughey decided to pop the question. When he went down on one knee to propose to Alves, her family thought she was going to say no. "I remember hitting the knee, looking into her eyes and I remember her face," said the True Detective actor recalling the family Christmas visit in 2011 reports Today. "I remember this smile coming up from her feet. I remember her having to catch her breath...And she didn’t say yes right away," he added. "And then the whole family was going, 'Jeezus, she’s gonna say no.'"

She eventually said yes and the couple wed in 2012, but there were some hurdles along the way before they finally exchanged vows in his family estate in Texas. Due to McConaughey's busy work schedule, their wedding date kept shifting. Finally, Alves got tired of waiting for her fiance to set a date; she took it upon herself and set a date, and sent her now-husband an invitation asking him to "Be there," according to ET Canada. Soon, they welcomed their third child, a boy named  Livingston, into their lives.

While McConaughey loves all his children equally, it was Levi who helped him discover a part of himself he had never known. "Man is never more masculine than after the birth of his first child," he told Today. "I don't mean in a macho way. I mean in terms of giving a man strength." Speaking about their "blended" parenting style he said, "We mix the ‘alright, alright, alright’ into the discipline," according to PEOPLE. "The main thing is that my wife and I, Camila, we have a similar moral bottom line. And as you learn, if you have kids, every day they get older, you realize how much more it’s really DNA," he added.

"Friday night’s the no-curfew night," in the McConaughey household. "It’s pizza night, it’s a movie night, it’s ‘all the kids can sleep with Mama and Papa night.'" Furthermore, he admitted, "That night can go late...Sometimes we have to lie about the time and say it’s midnight when it’s really 10 ’cause we can tell it’s gonna go to 2." Apart from the love he has for his children, he openly credits his wife for a lot of his success. "A good woman," said the actor, according to a report by Today, "gives a man courage and confidence — the courage to have the confidence to go and do it, to not be worried as much or consider as much what the rest of the world thinks."
