"Benny would sniff his head and face but was really unsure what was going on," said Scott Ballenger's daughter Alexis Nazarino recalling that day.
The love that animals, especially dogs have for their human friends is unlike any other. Their love is true, it is kind, it is faithful and I'm sure people who own these furry pooches would agree whole-heartedly.
Here's yet another instance of their undying love for their owners which is sure to bring tears to your eyes. A family from Washington adopted a dog named Benny, who was misplaced after Hurricane Harvey spread its devastating arms around the region, reports The Dodo.
Surprisingly, Benny took a particular liking towards his dad, Scott Ballenger, and the two quickly became best friends in no time. Although the furry friend seemed very unsure of men, he was quick to form a friendship with his dad and the pair were inseparable ever since then.
Even Ballenger's daughter, Alexis Nazarino, vouched for the same saying, "Benny was unsure of men and we don’t know his background, but he loved my dad and heard his car coming even before [Benny’s] mom did after work." Despite being scared of strangers and people in general, there was one thing that he was absolutely sure of- his love for his dad!

According to the outlet, Ballenger and his girlfriend took their dear pooch everywhere they went. Fortunately, Benny's love for his owner was reciprocated by Ballenger in equal folds.
However, things were about to get rocky for the little fella, as his dad had to be admitted to the hospital due to his serious condition on August 29, this year. Of course, the poor dog was completely confused when he couldn't find his favorite human being anywhere in the house. In order to calm his nerves, Ballenger's family decided to take Benny to visit his dad at the hospital.

This turned out to be the exact thing that Benny needed and as soon as he saw Ballenger he couldn't help but rush towards him. "Benny would sniff his head and face but was really unsure what was going on," said Nazarino recalling that day.
"He would sit with dad for a few minutes here and there." After a while, something changed in Benny's behavior who suddenly refused to leave his dad's side. Maybe he sensed how critical Ballenger's condition was and knew then and there that his owner needed him by his side more than ever. According to the report, Benny would lie down next to Ballenger and snuggle up close to him.
I had my dog travel 8 hours with me so she could come see me if I needed her or if something went sideways for my open heart surgery. Luckily everything went well and she got a week at a nice k9’s hotel and was there for me when I was discharged.💛🐾😋— BeforeTheFuneral (@BeforTheFuneral) 10 September 2019
And most of the time he would be lying on Ballenger's arm. Unfortunately, the very next day, Ballenger passed away. After spending a year and a half with his dad, Benny somehow sensed that it was Ballenger's last day and refused to leave him alone in that condition.
"True love," said Nazarino about their bond. Now, Benny is completely heartbroken. His family informed the outlet that his dad's death has impacted him pretty badly. He runs around the house looking for Ballenger during the day and spends his nights crying for him.
When my grandpa pasted away at my home his little dog was in bed with him like always! It took the dog about an hour to stop growling & trying to bit people before we could remove her!— lisa (@1lisapr) 10 September 2019
Fortunately, he's still got his mother and other members of Ballenger’s family who never hesitate to give him endless hugs and affection. They believe they can get through this tragedy together with Benny.
And they never hesitate to be there for him every step of the way. It's true that Benny is incomplete without his dad but the family is thankful that he got the chance to remain by his owner's side in his final moments.
