'Hocus Pocus' Sequel Is Finally Happening After 26 Years, And We Can't Keep Calm

'Hocus Pocus 2' is currently being developed by  Disney+, and Workaholics writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo are all set to work on its script.

Looks like our favorite Halloween Sanderson sisters may be getting a second life after all. According to reports, Hocus Pocus 2 is currently being developed by  Disney+, and Workaholics writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo. The 1993 Disney film followed the fantastic story of three witches played by  Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, who apparently are resurrected on Halloween. Although the movie didn't manage to impress critics and flopped at the box office, it gained a massive cult following after platforms like Disney and ABC Family aired its reruns every season.

It was last year when Hocus Pocus celebrated its 25th anniversary and the stars of the Halloween-favorite movie gathered once again to speak about the magical spell it managed to cast on its fans. "I don’t think any of us who were making it at the time thought Hocus Pocus would have such a long life," said Parker. "People tell me all the time they grew up watching it, and that they still watch it. I think it’s wonderful." Although it's not exactly clear if the original actors would be a part of the Hocus Pocus 2 film, reports say that Disney is hoping to get the original team on board once again. As for the plot, it's not yet known if the sequel will be a direct continuation of the previous one featuring the same actors or if it's a reboot showcasing a fresh new batch of characters and storyline.

During an interview with EW, the cast shared their excitement over "flying" which was an essential part of their witch roles. Cherishing the memories attached to flying, Midler said it was "one of the greatest joys I’ve ever experienced as an actor." Parker, on the other hand, said, "I’m going to go out on a broom and say I enjoyed it more than anybody." Directed by Kenny Ortega the 1993 film's script was created by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert, while Garris and David Kirschner expertly penned down the story. As per reports, Disney was working on developing a TV movie based on the same two years ago, but unfortunately, it never hit the screens.

"For a moment in time, I was heartbroken and disappointed," said director Kenny Ortega when the film showed disappointing results at the box office. owever, he was glad that the movie's charm has lived on for over two decades in the hearts of people who still love to watch it over and over again. "People have just found it and found the treasure that is there with Kathy and Bette and Sarah; their wonderful, incredible chemistry and good humor. It’s just a fun movie that just takes you away and there’s just magic there," he added.

With Disney's Lady and the Tramp and the High School Musical original series, it looks like they are taking us back to those nostalgic days of entertainment. Now, all we have to do is wait for the launch of Disney+ on November 12 to learn more about Hocus Pocus 2.
