The couple has been together for nearly four decades and they believe it's because they chose not to get married!
Age is just a number, and so are wedding anniversaries, because no time is too long when you're with the right person. I mean, just look at Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. The two have been together forever, but one look at them tells you just how in love they are with each other. Also, they've proven that you don't really have to get legalities involved when you want to be with someone for the rest of your life. The couple who have never tied the knot, have been together since 1983. The Hollywood stars met on the set of Swing Shift, a wartime romantic drama that was filmed in the year they met, and released in April 1984, as per Daily Mail. However, since they don't have a day to celebrate their legal union, they consider Valentine's Day as their anniversary because "The first time we went to lunch together was Valentine's Day," Russell revealed to E!Online. According to TODAY, they don't ever plan on changing their marital status, despite building a life together.
“We’ve both been married and divorced,” Russell noted, referring to his brief marriage with ex-wife Season Hubley and Hawn’s with ex-husbands Gus Trikonis and Bill Hudson. “Marriage didn't work for either one of us,” Hawn said plainly. “I'm not saying that it wouldn't work again, but I didn't think that we really needed to get married. I mean, what marriage ended up being, in many ways, is big business” So, when the couple got together, they decided they would stay together until and unless their children — his son, Boston Russell, her kids, Oliver and Kate Hudson, and their shared son, Wyatt Russell - had any objections with the relationship.
“We said if this is ever an issue if the kids feel we need to do this, then we’ll get married," Russell, 70, recalled. However, it was the kids who didn't want them to get married. So what's the secret behind a long-lasting relationship? No, it doesn't need the tag or title of marriage. All it needs is “Love, gratitude, compassion because sometimes every man or every woman will drive their partner crazy. Family. Fun. Laughs. Sex,” Hawn, 75, admitted. “If you don’t nurture that and remember, you’re done.” In 2015, Hello Magazine reported Hawn saying that she and Kurt would be divorced if they got married.
"I would have been long divorced if I’d been married. Marriage is an interesting psychological thing. If you need to feel bound to someone, then it's important to be married. If you have independence, if you have enough money and a sense of independence and you like your independence, there’s something psychological about not being married because it gives you the freedom to make decisions one way or the other. For me, I chose to stay. Kurt chose to stay, and we like the choice." When the couple received stars on the Walk of Fame they celebrated each other warmly.
According to TODAY, Russell said at the podium, “Goldie to you, I owe my wonderful life. Simply put Goldie, I cherish you. All of the stars in the sky or on the boulevard don’t hold a candle to that. So if I am to be honored with this sweet token of memorabilia that is to be sunk forever in the cement of a street whereupon I will be subjected to the constant harshness of the blazing California sun, blowing winds and pouring rains and stray dogs — of both the canine and human variety, perhaps in need of a little relief — and trod upon by the soles of shoes caked with earth from all corners of the globe, there's no one else I'd rather be next to for all of that than Goldie Hawn." Now, the couple is happy and are spending time with the latest addition to the family- a cute labrador pup named Roy Hawn Russell.
