Nicole Louise Perkins, a British photographer, believes that every person is beautiful irrespective of their unique traits. Perkins, who works full-time at a special needs secondary school in the UK set out to help others witness this reality through her lens. She launched a 12-day 'Down With Disney' campaign to "celebrate and help raise awareness for Down syndrome." In this magical photoshoot, Perkins captured children dressed as various characters from Disney movies, including The Lion King and The Little Mermaid.
In an attempt to combine her love for children and photography, she first came up with 'Down with Beautiful' in 2018, where she featured 32 different toddlers, children, teens, and young adults with Down Syndrome, reports Fox News. "The response has been incredible, and it was so much fun creating the images," she told Good Morning America. "I have met some amazing families in the process and I’m so glad to see the joy the images of their children has brought to so many people."
She added, "I hope people take away the fact that there is a lot more to Down syndrome than what you are told in a hospital. They are such beautiful special people and the world is a much better place with them in it." During an interview with Fox News, she said, "There is something so special about people with Down Syndrome and the more people who realize that the better. They really do make the world a better place," Perkins told the outlet. Her effort was well appreciated by netizens who showered her post with thousands of likes.
