Life hadn't been fair to Keanu Reeves who had to endure a lot of pain and grief throughout his life alone. "Grief changes shape, but it never ends. When the people you love are gone, you're alone."
Some experiences change the way we look at life. Unfortunately, Keanu Reeves had to ensure some of those. He was all alone when he lost his daughter and the woman he loved. He's carried that pain around for so long, that it's now become a part of who he is. The Matrix star reportedly met Jennifer Syme in 1998 at a party. It was one organized honor of his band, Dog Star. Only a year ago had Syme entered the entertainment field, having bagged a minor role with the famous director, David Lynch, according to Faboiosa.
It was love at first sight for Reeves who was completely smitten by Syme, who was eight years younger than him. The two of them eventually started dating, but they kept it under wraps for quite some time. However, they couldn't escape from the public eye. A year into the relationship, the couple was expecting a baby and they were more than ecstatic and were ready to welcome their baby daughter into the world. Before she was born, they'd already decided on her name - Ava. But fate was cruel to them, and on the eve of Christmas in 1999, Syme gave birth to a stillborn.
Reeves had gone through a lot of grief in the past, but he just could not bear the pain of losing his daughter, Ava. On the other hand, Syne suffered from serious postnatal depression, according to Daily Mail. Soon, the couple parted ways and went on to grieve the loss of their daughter separately. However, they still remained close and shared a close bond, but they had no idea of the events that were to unfurl in the future. Two years later, Syne, who was on her way back from a party, met with an accident that resulted in her death. This was hard on Revees and it shattered him.
Recalling the incidents, Reeves said, "Grief changes shape, but it never ends. People have a misconception that you can deal with it and say, 'It's gone, and I'm better.' They're wrong. When the people you love are gone, you're alone." It was evident from this that he really missed them. "I miss being a part of their lives and them being part of mine. I wonder what the present would be like if they were here - what we might have done together. I miss all the great things that will never be. Damn it! It's not fair! It's absurd. All you can do is hope that grief will be transformed and, instead of feeling pain and confusion you will be together again in memory, that there will be solace and pleasure there, not just loss," said the actor.
Despite all this pain, the actor said that he was really looking forward to happy moments in his life, like getting married someday. "I don't want to flee from life. I'm trying not to be alone so much. And, man, it's a struggle. I want to get married. I want to have kids. That's at the top of the mountain. I've got to climb the mountain first. I'll do it. Just give me some time," requested the 55-year-old. Thankfully, life has been kinder to Reeves, probably because he's already experienced a lifetime's worth of grief. Reeves is now dating 46-year-old artist Alexandra Grant. The couple met in 2009 during a dinner party. Eventually, the duo started working together.
They have produced two books—Ode to Happiness, released in 2011, and Shadows, released in 2016. According to People, Ode to Happiness was Reeves' first step into the writing world and Grant's first artist book. Reeves is still a private man and the world only got to know of their relationship after he was seen holding hands with Grant at the red carpet of the LACMA Art + Film event in LA. Though Reeves still hasn't completely opened up about his relationship, it does seem like's he's finally found love. The couple looked stunning on the red carpet and his fans couldn't be happier for him.
