The comedian, 59, married her longtime boyfriend Randy Bick early Wednesday in what she described as a ceremony lasting “just under 14 minutes.”
There's nothing quite like ushering in New Year with a new beginning or union of some sort. This time around we are entering 2020 so double delights all round! Kathy Griffin, 59, and her longtime boyfriend Randy Bick got married early on New Year's Day. The comedian described her joy in a clip on Twitter with the ceremony lasting "just under 14 minutes". Griffin's video of the nuptials only took place for a minute or so with none other than Lily Tomlin officiating the whole thing, Entertainment Weekly reports.
“What was supposed to be a shallow, ‘toot it and boot it’ one-night stand has grown and flourished into something far more meaningful,” said the Grace and Frankie star, 80, as she began the ceremony. “They stayed together. Then they couldn’t stay away from one another.”
For the occasion, Griffin wore a pearly white, short-sleeved gown with a bouquet of red flowers in her hand. The clip was captioned “LOVE IT! We promised you atypical. We are in love and we cannot stop laughing. Thank you @LilyTomlin and Jane Wagner! #HappyNewYear.”
In another tweet, she wrote that her wedding dress was a lovely callback to her first date with Bick back in 2011. She'd worn the same dress then and for their ceremony on Wednesday. “He picked out this dress and showed me this photo. Romance is hotttt again,” she tweeted.
Congratulations Kathy and Hubby! You looked so sweet in your announcement video. It’s fun to watch you being so happy.— R. Rebel (@rustilev) January 2, 2020
It was just hours after Griffin announced her engagement to Bick in an adorable video she shared on Twitter on the day before their wedding. “Happy New Year! And, surprise! We’re getting married! Tonight! After midnight!” the two said in unison in the clip.
This is Griffin's second marriage after she split from software entrepreneur Matthew Moline in 2005 after four years of matrimony.
BIG THANKS to @kourtneykardash & @KrisJenner for taking this photo Christmas Eve when they were kind enough to host a gigantic ENGAGEMENT PARTY FOR US! I mean they didn’t technically know it was an engagement party for us but boy they spared no expense! Griffin said that her wedding would be "very atypical" and "very fun". She teased that her fans would be particularly excited by the person who would officiate, and it turned out to be Lily Tomlin. Griffin and Bick met at a food and wine festival and started dating in 2011.
“Well, you know, I didn’t think it would last [because] he’s 18 years younger than I am!” she joked to People in 2016. “Because I thought he was just a man-whore if you will.”. “He’s like a regular guy, you know, he’s like a real guy,” she previously told PEOPLE. “He’s not like a Hollywood guy.”
Congrats to @kathygriffin on the wedding. I hope you two have a long and happy marriage.— jackie (@_Just_A_Geek) January 2, 2020
In November 2018, the couple briefly went their separate ways with Griffin saying on Twitter at the time that it was not a bitter split in any way. “God help me, but I’m gonna be one of those people who announce a breakup. After 7 years, Randy and I have decided to part ways. It’s not acrimonious and I will always adore him,” she tweeted.
“We took a little break and we’re back,” she told Entertainment Tonight in March after they got back together. “We just came to the decision that we’ve really been through so much together. We’ve been together for over eight years … We both turned to each other and realized this is the longest relationship for both of us, you know? We should fight for it and make it work.”
