Jon Bon Jovi and his wife Dorothea Bongiovi is what true love's all about. The two of them have been together for four decades, out of which they've been married for 31 years. Now, that honestly is a very long time. According to an exclusive by PEOPLE, they still complete each other's sentences. They revealed the secret to their long-lasting marriage and raising their four children. The secret's actually quite simple. ″Mutual respect,″ says Jon. ″Having grown up together and grown together. And we really like each other. We want to hang out.″ Adds Dorothea: ″I always said I was good at spotting potential too. I have a gift."

People say that people grow close and then grow apart, but that's definitely not the case with Bon Jovi and Dorothea. Even after all this time, the two of them are closer than ever, and their family is complete with their children Stephanie, 27, and sons Jesse, 25, Jacob, 18, and Romeo, 16. Jon, who just released his new Bon Jovi album, 2020, has remained grounded, despite his concerts, world tours, and countless adoring fans. It's all because of Dorothea, who Bon Jovi says is, ″without a doubt,″ his rock. ″We work hard at it, but we enjoy each other and we never fell for the trappings of what celebrity can do,″ says the rockstar.

″We've witnessed that happen over the years to people that were close to us and people that we knew from afar. It’s just what I do, it's not who I am. I write songs. I happen to be very good at performing them. That's it." It's not that common to find Hollywood couples who have been married for so long. According to Tip Hero, Bon Jovi knows and acknowledges the fact.  He says, “Somehow I became, like, the poster boy for, you know, ‘long-married rock star’. OK, fine, I’ll gladly accept the mantle because: a) I’m so happy…” He admits that Dorothea is the one that keeps them together.

“She’s the glue,” Bon Jovi said, according to PEOPLE. “I’m the crazy visionary with all kinds of things flying, and the seams are all splitting. She’s the one following me with the glue and the thread and needle, keeping it all together.” He revealed that like all marriages, they've had their fair shares of issues as well, but they've always managed to get past it. “We make it work.” As for how she feels about her husband’s hoards of female fans, “I think it’s great they love the music,” she says. “They love the band and are so loyal.” Another thing that brings the two of them closer together is a shared love of helping others. They launched the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation together in 2006.

They then launched Soul Kitchen restaurants, which brings together paying customers and those in need of a hot meal. ″It's a partnership,: Dorothea adds of their work with the Soul Foundation, which they launched in 2006. ″When we see injustice or people suffering, you want to help. We're very blessed, and we have the ability to do that.″ When it comes to their philanthropy ventures, Bon Jovi jokes, “My wife does all the work and I get all the credit.” But honestly, both of them put in equal efforts. Bon Jovi doesn't even hesitate to wash the dishes at their restaurant when they were short on staff amid the pandemic.

“Somehow it works,” Dorothea says of how they’ve successfully balanced love, family, and fame all these years. “I think because we grow at the same rate. We grew equally and not in opposite directions.” Bon Jovi is now slowly getting back to his rockstar life, and while everything's changed all over the world, there's something that's remained the same for forty years, and it's the fact that he's got Dorothea by his side. ″I'm happiest,” he says, ″if I like what I do for a living, I'm doing right by my family and I'm making the world just a little bit better." Cheers to many more years together!
