UPDATE: In a joint statement issued to PEOPLE, Lopez and Rodriguez have stated that they are still together, and are currently "working through some things."

Singer Jennifer Lopez and baseball star Alex Rodriguez have reportedly ended their engagement and parted ways after being together for four years. While it may have come as a shock to fans, insiders say that it was a long time coming. “The last time they had seen each other was March 1. They haven’t seen each other since then,” an insider tells Us Weekly. “There have been issues in their relationship for a while now.” They had announced their engagement in March 2019 and were set to get married in June 2020. The wedding was postponed twice because of the pandemic.

Although neither of them has confirmed the break-up, 45-year-old A-Rod has been speculated to be hinting at singlehood in a recent Instagram post of himself alone on a yacht in Miami. He can be seen staring at his cellphone seriously with the caption, “Don’t mind me, just taking a sail-fie… What are your plans for the weekend?” Meanwhile, 51-year-old JLo has been shooting for her latest film, Shotgun Wedding opposite Josh Duhamel all the way in the Caribbean. “He’s now in Miami getting ready for baseball season, and she’s filming her movie in the Dominican Republic,” a source told Page Six.

Before announcing their engagement, the superstars dated for two years. “Everyone wants a fairy tale. They all want a romantic comedy, a happy ending. We all do,” Lopez said, in an interview at the time. “But it’s not a movie, even if you see us on Instagram or on the shows.” She continued, “We’re happy. We’re taking it day by day. And it’s great.” The two families had come together over the years. Lopez's 13-year-old twins, Maximilian David, and Emme Maribel, with ex-husband Marc Anthony and Rodriguez's two daughters, Ella Alexander, 12, and Natasha Alexander, 16 had grown close to one another as well.

"We positioned what could be perceived as a negative into a positive, by saying to the girls, look, now you don't have one house, you have two houses," Rodriguez had said of this new big family, on Raising the Bar podcast, according to Entertainment Tonight. "You don't have two parents, you have four parents. Lucky you, the more the merrier." The family of six had even quarantined together last year. But just last month, Lopez revealed in an interview that the singer revealed she and Rodriguez “did therapy” in quarantine amid new rumors of cheating. "It has been actually really good," she said about the therapy. "We got to work on ourselves. I think it was really helpful for us in our relationship,” she said, according to Vulture.

Lopez had also expressed that marrying Rodriguez didn't feel right. His character was called into question especially after tabloids connected the star baseball player to Southern Charm star Madison LeCroy because he had liked one of her Instagram posts in the past. Craig Conover, a co-star from the show, accused LeCroy of flying to Miami to sleep with an ex-MLB player. The rumors, however, were dismissed. LeCroy even said in an interview that the two knew each other but only an acquaintance. “He’s never physically cheated on his fiancée with me,” she added and said that they've only ever spoken randomly. She went on to say that the content of these calls was “innocent.”

Amid all of this, the "In the Morning" singer revealed more details about there being no possibility of a wedding. "We postponed the wedding twice. We had planned what we really, really wanted to do, [but] I don't know if we'll be able to re-create that. We canceled it, and since then we haven't really talked about it. There's no rush. We want to do it right when we can do it," she said as per PEOPLE. "Jennifer felt like moving forward to marriage wasn’t right," a source told Entertainment Tonight. "Recently Alex’s character has been called into question and that didn’t sit right with Jennifer. The couple will always have respect for each other.”
