Prosecutors claim the accident was, in fact, a well-planned murder by Hakan so that he could cash in on the insurance he took a short while before the alleged accident.
Hakan Aysal, 40 took his pregnant wife Semra Aysal, 32 atop a cliff in Butterfly Valley, in the south-eastern Turkish city of Mugla in June 2018. Hakan reportedly took a selfie with Semra, who was 7-months pregnant and then pushed her off the 1,000ft cliff they were standing on, according to Mirror. Prosecutors claim the accident was, in fact, a well-planned murder by Hakan so that he could cash in on the insurance he took a short while before the alleged accident. An indictment prepared for the crime of "deliberate murder" against Hakan, it states that he "planned the murder of his wife by first taking out a personal accident insurance on her behalf with a guarantee of 400,000 Turkish lira ($56,653.40) The only beneficiary was himself."
Prosecutors claim that the couple sat on top of the cliff for over three hours, only because Hakan wanted to ensure that there was no one around when he pushed his wife and his unborn child to their death. The indictment also noted that Hakan had actually claimed the insurance bonus but it was declined when they got to know about the investigation. The Fethiye High Criminal Court also ruled that the vile man be remanded in custody for premeditated murder. A video from the victim's brother Naim Yolcu in court said that the man showed no sign of remorse despite kiling two people at the same time.
"When we went to the Forensic Medicine Institute to get the body, Hakan was sitting in the car. My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan did not even appear sad." He added: "My sister was always against taking out loans. However, after she died, we learned that she had three loans taken by Hakan on behalf of my sister. Also, Hakan had a fear of heights, what extreme sport is she going to be doing when she is scared of heights?" When asked about the questionable insurance premiums, Hakan said, "I have been interested in extreme sports since 2014; parachute, bungee jumping, rafting. That is why I had life insurance before I got married."
He was also asked about the article in the accident personal insurance stating that "in case Semra Aysal dies, her heir will be husband Hakan Aysal. In case Hakan Aysal dies, his heirs will be family relatives". He replied by stating that he did not get into the finer details, he only signed the insurance papers. "I did not examine the policy much. The banker arranged the paperwork. I just brought it to my wife to get it signed. I was not aware that there was such an article," said Hakan. He also denied planning the murder, saying that it was completely an accident.
Sad. Punish him to death. He killed two innocents. If a Wife can’t trust her man she can’t trust anyone🙏. My heart bleeds.— KingOfMirzapur (@KaleenBhayya) February 17, 2021
"After taking a photo, my wife put the phone in her bag. Later she asked me to give her the phone. I got up and then heard my wife scream behind me when I walked a few steps away to get the phone from her bag. When I turned back, she was not there. I did not push my wife." It's been about two years since the incident, but the investigation still continues.
