Hugh Jackman Schooled About 'Solidarity' For Sharing Pic Of A Cop Hugging Black Protester

Hollywood star Hugh Jackman was subjected to criticism after he decided to tweet something about the ongoing protests in the United States. He uploaded a photo that shows a white police officer hugging a black protester who had been crying. The Wolverine actor tweeted the photo with the caption "solidarity." This obviously did not sit well with folks who have been fighting for reform in systematic racism and police brutality after George Floyd, an unarmed black man was killed in the custody of a white police officer. In no time, the Twitterverse pounced on Jackman and mocked his post calling it propaganda favoring the cops.

This is shallow propaganda designed to obfuscate and maintain oppressive dynamics, wrote user Brennan Moore. I’m sorry but you can’t post that if you aren’t also sharing the videos of police brutality! The news is doing enough of sharing this bullshit instead of what’s actually going on. Peaceful protesters being attacked for no damn reason by the cops who are supposed to keep them safe, shared @AmyWonderland92. Please use your platform for more. Show the violence. Make us whites uncomfortable because we haven’t realized our privilege. If you are uncomfortable because of a video or photo it probably means you should post it. You have a huge platform, do better, urged Michelle Forsyth.

Many were quick to point out that Jackman had played the roles of characters who fought for equality against prejudice and hatred. Les Miserables was one of his most popular movies, where he played Jean Valjean who was branded a criminal and outcast by law but fought for a second chance to be a good person. Bro was in les miserables and he still doesn't get it, wrote one user. He also played Wolverine in many X-Men movies, where he was a mutant in a world filled with humans. Many used this concept of a mutant for racial inequality and expressed their disgust. Did you pay attention to any of the x-men movies you were in? mocked another.

Another took a shot at Jackman's relation with President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner. Hugh is long time friends with Ivanka and Jared Kushner. He was never on our side, wrote AmadeusMaxwell. Don’t forget hugh jackman is very good friends with ivanka trump and says he doesn’t like “to talk about politics” he is an absolutely trash human being, shared another. But there were some, who did come to the Australian actor's rescue. I’m really shocked by some of the posts that people have put on here. Not everyone is the same, and obviously people who are not humanitarian want to carry on creating hate no matter what. Positivity and helpful post like Hughes, is support, not negativity, wrote Jeff Leyton. I commend you for this tweet. Police Officers come from all races, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. These are images you don’t see because it does not fit an “agenda” or “narrative” that is being spread to continue drive a wedge between people, expressed Garvin McHale.
