Gervais called out the many stars in the room for their relationship to large corporations like Apple, Amazon, and Disney.
The who's who of the Hollywood industry kicked off the new year dressed to the nines and attending the Golden Globe awards. The show, hosted by Ricky Gervais, turned out to be quite the controversial one as he called out the many stars in the room for their relationship to large corporations like Apple, Amazon, and Disney, reports Fox News. Undeterred by the big names and famous faces staring back at him, Gervais tore apart the Hollywood elite all vying for the big win. "Apple roared into the TV game with 'The Morning Show,' a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing made by a company that runs sweatshops in China," he said.
"So you say you’re 'woke', but the companies you work for, Apple, Amazon, Disney... If ISIS had a streaming service you would be calling your agents." Gervais then went on to mock at the stars who had a relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He stated that Epstein did not kill himself, which earned groans from the crowd, to which he retaliated, "shut up, I know he’s your friend but I don’t care."
Gervais then went on to make fun of Felicity Huffman, who spent some time in jail for her part in the college admission scandal. "You all look lovely all dolled up, you came here in your limos. I came here in a limo and the license plate was made by Felicity Huffman," he said to the crowd who cringed. "It’s her daughter I feel sorry for. That must be the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to her. And her dad was in 'Wild Hogs,' so..."
Seeing Ricky Gervais roast Hollywood and then watching the award winners virtue signal anyway is the best thing I've seen all year. It shows just how stubbornly thick headed woke SJWs are. Not even the eternal heartthrob, Leonardo DiCaprio, was safe from his ruthless jokes. Gervais took a shot at DiCaprio's movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood for being 3-hours long. "Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and, by the end, his date was too old for him." He added: "Even Prince Andrew is like, 'Come on Leo, mate. You’re nearly 50." Director Martin Scorsese's comments on Marvel movies were also part of this monologue.
He is a comedian, he doesn’t hate Hollywood celebs, it’s his job to roast them and he is good at it. He is an animal rights activist and an atheist, the right would be mad as hell if he were doing his standard stand up act. He like to get a rise out of people— Keith Wilson (@Keithmwil) January 6, 2020
Scorsese tweeted a while ago that Marvel movies were like theme parks, and Gervais joked that he understand why the director would be at a theme park, saying, "He's not big enough for any of the rides." Gervais then concluded his brutal monologue by warning the celebrities not to make any political or "woke" statements while they accepted their awards. "You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything," he declared. "You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg."
#RickyGervais roasts Hollywood at the at the #GoldenGlobes for its political moralizing & pontificating: “If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything.”— Daniel (@TheDancuso) January 6, 2020
