If it weren't for Zero, the family probably would not have survived. Zero truly is a hero for everyone!
A heroic dog is being praised after he sacrificed his life to save a family in Houston, Texas after a gunman opened fire during a children's birthday party. On March 10, Laura Martinez was hosting a celebration for her youngest daughter, when a teenager they knew from the neighborhood showed up with a weapon, according to People. The family set up a GoFundMe page that explained what really happened. The teenager, a 16-year-old, allegedly broke into the Martinez's home while they were sleeping and he stole some of their stuff. Laura went to his home to talk to his parents, but they weren't there, but it looks like this was a case of revenge from the boy's side.
On Saturday morning we woke up to realize a neighborhood kid had broken into our home while we were sleeping. He stole my son's wallet with 300$ cash in it, some jewelry and some other miscellaneous stuff. We knew who it was because he posted on snap chat wearing the hat he took. I went to this kid's home to speak with his parents but could not find them so I left them a note to call me, she wrote.
While at the residence the kid a 16-year-old boy showed up and threatened us. His neighbor watched this happen, the kid said was going to get his gun and we needed to leave. We went home, I figured the parents would call me. But instead, the kid showed up to our house, walked into our garage where we were cooking for my daughters birthday party that was happening at our home and started yelling. My oldest stepdaughter Valori started yelling back telling him to leave, I told him to leave.
He just kept saying he was going to get into trouble, I finally walked up closer to him and said you need to leave now. He punched me in the face, my son Patrick was standing beside me and immediately hit him back. The boy backed up slightly pulled a gun from his waist and began shooting. My son Taylor was hit in the ankle, the bullet is lodged in the bone and he requires surgery to fix the damage and remove the bullet. Because of this, he is now on crutches, he cannot work.
She continued: My dog Zero, jumped up and bit the boy, he shot Zero, my dog fell and the boy then fired 3 more shots, 2 hit my daughter Valori, 1 in the back 1/4 inches from her spine and 1 in the back of her thigh, the other hit the bbq pit. Zero then jumped again and knocked the boy down, he shot Zero 2 more times before he fell again, The boy then shot 5 more times 1 bullet hitting me in the leg. I am now on crutches and cannot work as I am a driver for Lyft and was shot in the right leg. I will have to see a vascular surgeon to prepare the damage.
She explained in detail the heroics of the dog in the post. She wrote: The police still have not caught him and my younger children are afraid, hell I'm afraid! We need help paying for surgeries, medicines, general bills as now two of us cannot work and the vet bill to have my Zero the Hero put down after the surgeon said he couldn't be saved. The emergency room bills are ridiculously high, I just don't know what to do but this. Any help is appreciated and if you can't help thank you for taking the time to read this and pray they find this dumb kid with a gun before he hurts anyone else.
It was only because of Zero that the entire family survived without major injuries to themselves. “I’m going to miss him a lot,” Martinez told ABC 13 of Zero. “He jumped up to protect us and never showed any fear, even when he was struck,” Pace added. Hollier also spoke to the media outlet and said, “It shouldn’t have happened. It could have been stopped in other ways.”
Many people are shocked about what has happened, one user commented on Laura's GoFundMe post: I am such a dog lover and Zero’s story really touched my heart. It’s not much but I wanted to help the family he loved so much. Another user wrote: My heart truly aches for the loss of your amazing dog Zero and for the physical, emotional and mental trauma this has caused your family. I will be praying for complete healing and restoration for you and your family, emotional healing on the loss of your beloved pup and justice to be served on the person responsible. Zero, you're truly a hero. May your soul rest in peace!
