"Australia is on fire and there are brave people all over the country VOLUNTARILY fighting day in, day out to keep our lives and homes safe. These firefighters need our support more than ever," Jenna O'Keeffe wrote on Facebook.
In the midst of the Australian bushfires, a woman took to social media to share quite a powerful, yet heartbreaking image of a firefighter. In the picture, he can be seen napping on his lawn, trying to catch a five-minute break after battling the fires for 10 days over 12-hour shifts. Jenna O'Keeffe, from New South Wales, posted the picture of her beloved father who fell asleep on the lawn as he took a break from his duty, according to Daily Mail.
O'Keeffe took to Facebook to share the image with a powerful message. She wrote: "This is a picture of my Dad getting 5 mins sleep on our front lawn, while my brother keeps watch over the fire burning at the top of our farm after he finished his 10th 12 hr+ day in a row fighting voluntarily in the community with the RFS NSW. My family has been fighting these fires on our farm and our community nonstop for over a month. They are tired, they are sore, and they are running out of resources."
O'Keeffe added, "Today I heard my Dad cry, he said, “Jen I have never seen anything like this, it’s never-ending”. We still have over 50 days of summer left we aren’t even halfway and there is currently no end in sight." She also encouraged people to not fall prey to all the politics behind the fires. "Please don’t become numb to what’s happening. Don’t get caught up in the negativity, the politics, the facebook news, the drama!"
"Australia is on fire and there are brave people all over the country VOLUNTARILY fighting day in, day out to keep our lives and homes safe. These firefighters need our support more than ever! This should be our one and only focus. To all of the people helping directly and indirectly around the country Thank you! To everyone else don’t forget to donate what you can to your charity of choice, every little bit will help! This is far from over! To my family, I can not express how proud I am of you all! I love you and am forever thankful."
Her post has received over 75,000 reactions and nearly 9000 comments. Gayle Hector commented: "This is heartbreaking, it’s utterly frustrating, we are so incredibly grateful to all our firefighters. My loving thoughts to your dear dad & family. Thank you, seems so inadequate, wish I could give him a big hug. Love to you all." Natasha Topouz added: "Thank you, our Heroes, from the bottom of my heart! Our thoughts and prayers for your health and safety with you. God bless you all who are saving our beautiful country with its amazing people and unique wildlife. Stay strong! Thank you!!!"
