The couple met for the first time on the sets of The Voice as coaches in 2015.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are officially engaged! The news was confirmed after the couple made an announcement on Instagram on Tuesday through a post shared by Stefani, where she's showing off her ring and her fiancé. "@blakeshelton yes please", the 51-year-old singer captioned the post. Shelton, 44, also shared the same picture with a caption that read: "Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020... And the rest of my life." he wrote. "I love you. I heard a YES!", according to CNN.
The big reveal comes weeks after the "Hollaback Girl" singer told Extra that she found it "cute" when people referred to Shelton as her husband. "Do you know how many people say my 'husband' about him? I guess we're just together. People got used to it or something like that," she said. "But it's pretty cute." Stefani was referring to a Jimmy Kimmel Live show where singer Dua Lipa referred to Shelton as her husband, which she quickly corrected. "Um, well ... he's not my husband, but that sounded cool when you said it," Stefani said. After the announcement, Lipa joked on the post and wrote: "I guess our little interview aged well!"
The couple met for the first time on the sets of the singing reality show The Voice as coaches in 2015 but the friendship soon turned into a romantic relationship as they bonded over their respective divorces. Speaking to People about their relationship, Shelton said: "When you're where she and I were, and you just feel so betrayed and on bottom, this bond that we formed when we found out what each other were going through, it's still there," The newly-engaged couple have worked with each other on several occasions including collaborating on several duets including "Nobody But You" - a song that turned out to be a No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart - and "Happy Anywhere" earlier this year.
A source close to the couple spoke to People back in November and said they were planning for a long-term future together. "They're still madly in love and beyond inseparable," the source had said. "Blake has wanted to take his time with marriage, but he is absolutely committed to Gwen. They both feel they've found their true partner in life and plan to be together forever." Shelton, in particular, has been very vocal in professing his love for his fiance and has done so on multiple occasions. Recently, to celebrate the pop star’s birthday, he shared an Instagram post and wrote: "It’s a special day for a special lady in my life. Happy birthday, @gwenstefani, I’d write a song for you every single day if I could..." In another event from November 2018, Shelton pulled Stefani onstage when he and host Carson Daly received the 2018 People's Choice Awards in Santa Monica. "All-time favorite coach, right there, Gwen Stefani. I love her," Shelton said, pointing at the singer. Daly then joined in and said, "You wanna come up? Come up and say a few [words]. Come on up!"
He then led the audience in a chant of "Gwen! Gwen! Gwen!" as she made her way onto the stage. "Oh my God, I'm so excited to be with Blake Shelton!" Stefani said when asked to say something. In 2017, close to two years in the relationship, Shelton spoke about how the relationship with Stefani started and said: "What's most important to Gwen is somebody who has her back and is a best friend so that's kind of how it started. It just feels like it gets stronger all the time." The same year he released a song titled "Turnin' Me On" which later came to be known as being all about his romance with Stefani.
