This year, "Grey's Anatomy" broke a major record becoming the longest-running medical drama, surpassing the total number of episodes produced --- a record previously held by "ER."
Sadly, the fans of Grey’s Anatomy are preparing for hiatus-heartbreak, with season 15 nearing its end. The season will wrap up in May but fret not, the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital are back again for more shifts. YES! Grey's Anatomy has been renewed for not one, but two seasons and we can't contain our excitement! As reported by Deadline.
This year, Grey's Anatomy broke a major record, surpassing the total number of episodes produced for a medical drama--- a record previously held by ER. Considering how Grey's Anatomy became the longest-running medical drama of all time in television history, the chances of renewal were always on the cards. And thanks to ABC, we will get two more of the seasons of the show created by Shonda Rhimes.
If you have been following the work created by Shonda, you will also be glad to know that ABC has renewed Station 19 and How to Get Away with Murder, which will air its third and sixth seasons, respectively. “Everyone at Shondaland is thrilled that our fans’ commitment to TGIT continues,” Shonda Rhimes and producing partner Betsy Beers said in a joint statement.
“We are so proud of Krista and (HTGAWM’s) Pete (Nowalk) and the work they do. Making the choice to have Krista oversee Station 19 was easy — the creativity she brings to the Grey’s Anatomy universe continues a tradition of storytelling we hold dear.”
Meanwhile, the finale of season 15 is soon dawning upon us, and we can surely expect a cracker of an ending. Following the penultimate episode that was aired on May 9, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered. We won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen the latest episode.
But if you have seen the penultimate episode, check out the promo for the final episode. (SPOILERS AHEAD) The footage features the fog wreaking havoc on Seattle and a very pregnant Teddy who is stuck in traffic with Amelia (Caterina Scorsone). She can be seen yelling "I don't want to have this baby in your car."
This is soon followed by Lincoln (Chris Carmack) claiming what is a major problem for the good doctors: "The fog is so thick no ambulance can get through it." Although we are not sure how the season will wrap up, one thing is certain -- things are about to get a lot more emotional and it will definitely make your heart pound.
Now if you are wondering if season 17 will be the show's endgame, don't worry there is no official confirmation on it. This means it may even be renewed for more seasons and that decision will be made between Pompeo (who stars as iconic character Meredith Grey) and Rhimes.
Rhimes moved to Netflix in 2017 and said that Grey's Anatomy will be on TV as long Pompeo wants to do the show. Because obviously, without the lead character, it wouldn't be "Grey's" Anatomy anymore.
The medical drama stars Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce and Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca.
