Former President George W. Bush Is Now A Proud Grandfather To A Baby Boy

Jenna Bush Hager jokes how her father was "Mad" as his grandson was not named after him after she welcomed her son on Monday.

Former President George W. Bush took to social media on Monday to announce the arrival of his first grandson. Sharing the image of the newborn along with his family the ex-President of the United States shared the named of Henry and Jenna Bush Hager's third child- Henry Harold Hager. In an Instagram post, he wrote: @laurawbush and I are thrilled to welcome Henry Harold Hager to our family. We are happy for the proud parents, @jennabhager and Henry. And pleased that Mila and Poppy have a little brother to love. We thank God that mom and baby are healthy, and we look forward to many years of loving the boy known as Hal.


Jenna Bush Hager and her husband, who also share two other kids, Mila, 6, and Poppy, 6, look overjoyed with their extending family. Even former First Lady Laura Bush could not help but share this amazing news on her Instagram account that read: We are overjoyed by the birth of our darling grandson. Welcome to our family, Henry Harold “Hal” Hager! Even though Bush's grandson doesn't carry his name, it definitely doesn't stop him loving the kid any less.


The former first daughter, Jenna Bush Hager shared a hilarious piece of detail while speaking on the phone with her Today show co-anchors on the first official day of her maternity leave. Speaking about her father's reaction to the latest addition to the family, the 37-year-old said, "My dad was a little mad that the name wasn’t George but [was] just kidding." She continued, "He said [Henry] was a cool name." The now mother-of-three, further added how her daughters, Poppy Louise who turns 4 this Aug. 13, and  Margaret “Mila” Laura, are "crazy about him" and "just so thrilled that they have a little baby brother all of their own."


Explaining the origin of the nickname Hal, Bush Hager informed the outlet how it all her daughters' idea. "We weren’t exactly sure about the name, but then his big sisters arrived and they called him Hal Pal," she said recalling the incident. "So we thought, 'This is just perfect!'" she added. During an interview with PEOPLE, the 73-year-old former President and his wife expressed how they were "over the moon" expecting their first grandchild back in May. Speaking to PEOPLE, Bush Hager shared how "My dad keeps joking that we need to name him George." She also mentioned how her husband and she had not decided on a name yet. "We had two girls. That’s all he’s ever known," she added. 


The co-host of Today shared how her father absolutely adores their little girls, however, she added it would "be nice for him to have a little fishing buddy as well." During the previously mentioned phone call, she informed her colleagues how she was feeling "good" and "happy" following the birth of her son via cesarean section. "I think when you’re held up in a hospital room with a newborn and you see the light in his eyes, you think, 'This is what life’s for — to make the world better for our little babes,'" she said. "And even though the news outside these walls isn’t so great, seeing the joy in their eyes, that’s what we’re here to do — make their lives safe."


"And he’s a beautiful, funny little man," continued Bush Hager about her baby boy. Explaining the reason behind naming their son Henry, she told PEOPLE, how he was named "after many on his father’s side including his dear dad and his paternal grandfather." Now, "Harold comes from my maternal grandfather, Pa, who I loved dearly and was unable to keep a son long enough to name." Furthermore, she added, "His sisters are thrilled to have a little brother and already nicknamed his nickname, exclaiming, 'Welcome to the world, Hal Pal!' According to reports, the news of her pregnancy came three years after Tyler Henry, Hollywood Medium star predicted how Bush Hager would have a son.
