Artist Explains 5 Common Misconceptions About Bisexuality Using Adorable Kitten Drawings

Paws of Pride uses adorable little kittens to shine a light on bisexuality erasure and portray the different misconceptions people harbor about individuals who identify as bisexual.

Unfortunately, we as a society have harbored a plethora of misconceptions about those among us for way too long. Many of us have formed misinformed opinions about a group of people on the basis of a number of characteristics, from race to skin color to job profile to their sexuality and so on. However, as humans, we also feel the need to be seen and heard as who we truly are and not just as what these misinterpretations define us.

Among those who are often misunderstood in such a manner are those who identify as bisexual. Although the Center For Disease Control suggests that bisexual individuals comprise the largest single group in the LGBTQ+ community, there are still people out there who believe bisexuality is a myth. In an attempt to combat these misconceptions about bisexuality, the Chinese artist who created Paws of Pride came up with adorable kitten illustrations portraying bisexuality erasure, with the help of LGBTQ+ activist influencer Jessie Page

Captioning the sweet but powerful Instagram post, Paws of Pride wrote: We aren’t labels. Society needs to hold onto and appreciate something that doesn’t easily fit into this box or that box, a simple soundbite or easy definition. Bisexuality is beautiful and valid. We are here and visible. The artist, Paege, also shared the cute illustrations on her account, writing, Bisexual erasure is something I really want to touch on. I tweet about it a lot... I just feel like it's SO COMMON. This is something I tweeted last year and decided to bring to Instagram with the help of one of the most LOVELY PAGES @pawsofpride.

The post definitely had an impact on her followers who could relate to the illustrations on a personal level. @b.ivett_93 commented: I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I am bisexual and I’m 14 and everyone says it’s a phase, I’m just curious, etc... no one can understand that I love girls and guys as well. @_cerys.k_ chimed in writing: Bisexual erasure annoys me so much, especially in the LGBTQ+ community, so this is really important to touch upon. Meanwhile, @evexdrawingss wrote: this is so so important, however, it is looked over immensely. bisexuality is just as important as any other gender and sexuality. I’m so glad you’re helping raise awareness of how much bisexuals are invalidated.

This isn't the first time, Paws of Pride has created such powerful illustrations regarding the many issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community. The artist behind the Instagram page often uses adorable cute-as-a-button kittens to shatter misconceptions about all those who do not identify as heterosexual.
