An era of Hollywood innocence of the '60s comes to an end with the death of American actress Doris Day. The Actress' Foundation confirmed the death of this star early this Monday at her California home Carmel Valley, reported the Telegraph. The multi-talented actress, singer, and animal welfare activist had just celebrated her 97th birthday a few weeks ago on April 3. Her fans recently attended her three-day-annual event to raise charity for Doris Day Animal Foundation.
Despite her absence, her followers made it a point to celebrate her birthday which was laced with a good cause. Day told PEOPLE how thrilled and grateful she for her army of fans who traveled from all parts of the world just to celebrate her birthday. The beautiful artist ended her statement by saying, "Their love and support to help us raise money for the precious four-ledgers means more to me than I can say."
The 97-year-old actress/singer's career kickstarted with her hit song 'Sentimental Journey'. She then went on to record more than 650 songs which attracted millions of fans to worship her. Her stellar performance in 'Calamity Jane', 'Pajama Game', and 'Pillow Talk' left an everlasting imprint on the world. She also starred in The Doris Day Show which aired between 1968-1973.
Doris day was blessed with a beautiful personality that people just couldn't resist and that inked her in the immortal pages of Hollywood history. The iconic lady also accepted an award at the 1989 Golden Globes after 30 years of disappearance from television. Since her performance in the popular sitcom, she had said goodbye to her acting career. After a final TV interview which was broadcasted globally in 1994, she was never seen on camera apart from a few interviews.
Luckily, she was surrounded by several close friends and "had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia," reports the Telegraph. Day will be missed deeply and her honey-like voice will resound in our hearts forever.
