There was something so endearing about Snowy that Anand Raman felt compelled to rescue him from the searing hot streets of Dubai and take him home. The dog is now thriving.
On a particularly sunny day in Dubai, freelance graphic designer Anand Raman's life was altered forever. Little did he know that he would meet the most precious soul when he set out to visit his sister where she worked. As he approached his sister's office he noticed a sweet little being tucked under one of the parked cars beneath her building. Given the soaring temperatures, everyone was doing their best to stay as cool as possible including the scrawny dog he had chanced upon. What happened next, took Raman by surprise.
The little mutt whose matted fur was caked with dirt came bounding towards Raman as if he had known him forever. The sweet dog seemed to know that he would be safe with Raman. Some dogs have a way of knowing these things you know? It is not every day that a stray gleefully races towards a human they have never seen before. It was clear that the dog felt an instant connection to the person who is now his human.
Raman recounted his first meeting with the sweet stray to The Dodo, “He was under a car eating scraps some of her workers had left for him. His fur was matted and his legs weren’t quite right.” Raman continued, “He approached me with a curious but excited disposition, wagging his tail excitedly. This demeanor of his is what initially made me fall in love with him.” Being showered with so much unexpected affection and trust from the sweet dog tugged at Raman's heartstrings and he could not help allowing his heart to melt.
Seeing how happy the dog was to be around him he could not bring himself to abandon his new friend. Soon enough, Raman found himself sitting in a car with his new friend in his arms. He said, “We then sat there for a while on the sidewalk and he was content just receiving pets from me for a while. I carried him into the car and he immediately fell asleep on my shoulder.” One look at the dog and Raman knew his furry friend needed to see a vet. Thankfully, his sister and brother-in-law stepped up to help and Raman could rush his new dog straight to the vet.
The poor pup had clearly been through a lot, finally allowing himself to rest once he was in the safety of Raman's loving arms. “He was exhausted when I first got him, which is why he fell asleep right away in the car ride to the hospital,” Raman explained. The visit with the vet revealed the real reason behind the dog's unique walk. All his time on the streets had caused malnutrition that was significant enough to cause rickets in the sweet dog. Both of the pup's legs were affected in the bargain and he was really lucky to have been found by Raman.
Thankfully, his rickets can be treated and won't have any long-term impact on the pup's health. After an eventful visit to the hospital, Raman was finally able to bring his new pet home. He decided to give the dog a much-needed bath in the hope of washing away at least some of the horrors from the street. Raman was not prepared for the surprise that was waiting for him. “I was surprised to find out that his fur was actually pure white after all the dirt and grime came off his body," exclaimed Raman. This new discovery helped Raman quickly pick out a name for his new pup.
And just like that, 'Snowy' was promptly inducted into the family. Raman felt it was a fitting name for the dog not just because of the color of his fur, but also because he was reminded of the loyal dog from The Adventures of Tintin. The next few weeks were spent trying to help Snowy adjust to life off the streets and in a loving home. “Getting him adapted to a house at first wasn't easy,” confessed Raman. “He wasn't sure where to go and what to explore, so he’d just sit in a corner. When I would take him for walks, he was constantly terrified that I was going to leave him back on the streets, so he would yank his leash away from me and run back into the parking lot of our building complex."
“This happened for a while until he realized we were not going to let him go anywhere fast," shared Raman. After 2 whole months, Snowy has finally accepted that he is home at last and is truly cherished by his new family. He loves to cuddle with his dad and likes stealing as many hugs as possible. Raman shared, “He sleeps and waits for us to get home from work, which is when he showers us with love and we reciprocate the same with him. He also gels amazingly well with any dog he comes across and is very well-behaved with kids and guests.” One thing that seems not to have changed even after being rescued is Snowy's wonderfully warm personality.
