"Dead" Cat Returns Home Hours After Heartbreaking Funeral!

Nathan and his girlfriend believed the cat they found dead on the road was Loki because it was identical to him, and gave him a heartbreaking funeral!

It's never easy to lose someone close to you, and it's harder to bid goodbye to your beloved pet. For nearly three years, a black cat named Loki was Nathan Sonoras' constant companion! According to The Dodo, Loki was a stray until he walked into Nathan's life. The two of them were inseparable, since. "He’s the sweetest little thing. He likes to jump on my lap and cuddle with me. He’s very lovable," said Nathan. Loki belonged to Nathan, but yet, he loved his freedom and enjoyed going out for walks alone in the neighborhood. Nathan never stopped him because he knew Loki would always come right back to him. Little did he know that he did not have a lot of time to spend with Loki.

When Nathan was returning home from work, he saw something on the road that made his heart sink in fear. He said, "I saw this black thing in the road up ahead as I was driving. I thought it was a sweatshirt or something at first. But I got closer and saw it was a black cat. My greatest fear of having an outdoor cat had been suddenly realized."  He wasn't sure if the lifeless cat was Loki, so he called his girlfriend and the two of them inspected the cat, only to confirm it was their beloved Loki. It seemed that Loki had been hit by a car.

"I was incredibly emotional. I was crying, saying, ‘My cat’s dead — I can’t believe this,’" said Nathan. "It was pretty traumatizing." Loki was gone. Nathan and his girlfriend then took Loki to her house since it was nearby and had a yard where they could lay Loki to rest peacefully. In remembrance of Loki, they held a funeral that was heart-wrenching! "We dug a hole right by a nice tree. We cried and shared good memories, and talked about how we hoped Loki was running around free in kitty heaven. It was very sad saying our goodbyes," said Nathan.

They had laid Loki to rest, or so it seemed. Little did they know it was not the time for goodbye, yet. It was nearly midnight when they finished all the rituals and the couple headed home, mourning the loss of their beloved pet, praying and hoping that Loki could come back alive. Nathan's parents live close to him, so the next morning he woke up early to give his father a ride. That's when he told his dad about Loki, as they too, were familiar with the cat.

Going to his dad's was quite a surprise for Nathan, it seems. "I explained that Loki had died and we were up pretty late burying him," he said. "At that moment, right behind me, I heard Loki’s exact meow. I turned out, and there he was." It was Loki, returning home after a stroll, not knowing anything about what Nathan and his girlfriend had been through last night, thinking they lost Loki.

"I jumped back. I was so in shock about the whole thing. I told my dad, ‘What’s going on? I just buried that cat last night,’" said Sonoras. "My dad was shocked as well. Loki is alive somehow." The joy and relief Nathan felt at that very moment were indescribable, even though it was mixed with surprise and shock. Loki, his beloved cat, was alive and well, strutting around with not a care in the world!

"I just held him and bawled my eyes out like a baby," said Sonoras . "Did I wake up in a parallel universe where Loki hadn't died? Or did I wish him back to life?" So what about the cat Nathan and his girlfriend buried? Well, it was a cat quite similar to Loki, and now Nathan hopes to be able to spread the word so that the family can be informed. "I believe all life is sacred. Even if it was another cat, I’m glad I got to honor it in that way."

Loki is back with Nathan at his home, and Nathan claims he's now contemplating if Loki should be given so much freedom to come and go as he pleases, having experienced such a heartbreaking situation. They say cats have nine lives and they always land on their feet. Loki coming back home does mean something, then, right? Pretty sure Nathan's going to monitor Loki's walks hereafter, but all's well that ends well!
