Diana Chapa heard a strange noise when she was walking around one day. She heard crying and started to walk towards where the sound was coming from to find a vulnerable dog.
Dogs need attention and can be a little hard to take care of but there is no reason why someone should ever abandon their pets. Dogs are the most loyal beings on this planet and can always turn things around if you're feeling low. They aren't known as 'man's best friend' for no reason. They always share their love and make people happy regardless of the situation they are in and the least people can do is to appreciate them. There are people who are forced to give up their dogs because of various reasons, sometimes it might be financial, other times it's because they are moving out and aren't allowed to take their pets along, or whatever. The right thing to do is to give the pet to the animal shelter or find someone who is willing to adopt them. There are people who just let them loose and hope that they run away and someone finds them but dogs are territorial and always come back home.
Diana Chapa recently came across an abandoned dog when she was walking around one day in Huston, Texas. She heard crying and started to walk towards where the sound was coming from and behind the old wooden fence she found the abandoned dog. The dog was skinny, as though he hadn't been fed for days, and was sitting outside a house as though waiting for the owners to come back. She noticed that the house looked like it had been abandoned for years and realized that the owners had left the poor dog behind, all alone. Source: Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
The dog was malnourished and had a hunched back and was bent over a cement patio. The abandoned pup was sitting there, crying, with no food or shelter for him. The house behind was empty and it didn't seem like anyone in the entire neighborhood was taking care of the dog. As soon as Diana Chapa saw this she pulled out her phone and called the animal control and requested for someone to come and rescue this sad, lonely dog. She checked on the site where she saw the dog every single day to see if help had actually come.
The animal control seemed to have ignored Chapa's request and no one ever showed up to come and pick the abandoned boxer mix up. After around five or six days passed she gave up on the animal control and decide to take matters into her own hands. She went back to the site and broke the gate down to go and get him. In an interview with The Dodo, Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, said: “After about five or six or seven days … she finally thought, ‘I can’t take this anymore,' and she busted open the gate and got him.”
Diana Chapa took the dog in since the animal rescue that claims to be there to protect the animals didn't really do anything about the situation. She named the dog Joshua and took good care of him at home. Chapa showered Joshua with a lot of food, love, and attention. She cleaned him up and even gave him his very own bed in the house. "He was so relieved and grateful to be rescued,” Silverstein said. “She said, ‘He took a breath — he just knew he was safe and out of danger." It seemed like he had been waiting for a really long time for someone to come and save him.
After taking care of Joshua and making him feel comfortable and at home, she tried to find out what exactly happened to him. He was around 6-year-old and after digging up some information from the neighbors she found out that he was owned by one family and was always kept outside on the patio for most of his life. This just goes to show that he was ill-treated by his previous owners ever since he was born. "He was 100 percent an outside dog,” Silverstein said. “There was no way this dog ever lived inside for one second."
Joshua was very malnourished and desperately needed to be taken to a vet for a checkup. After taking care of him for a day, Chapa took Joshua to the local clinic where she works as a vet tech. According to Chapa, Joshua was really excited even to go to the vet. This was something very unusual and surprising because most pets hate going to the vet and need to be dragged to go for a checkup. It seemed like Joshua was just happy that someone was finally taking care of him and giving him the love that he deserves.
“He’s so thrilled,” Silverstein said. “He’s got food and a kennel and he’s warm. He’s loving on everyone. She said she’s never seen a dog so happy at the vet before.” Joshua is currently still undergoing treatment because he has been left alone for years with no one to look after him. Once Joshua is stable, he will be moving to New York City where the staff at the Rescue Dogs Rock NYC will be taking care of him. The staff will soon help him find a new home. “He’s the nicest dog,” Silverstein said. “He’s amazing with other dogs, amazing with other people. He’s just an amazingly sweet dog.” To help Joshua get strong and healthy, you can make a donation to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. And if you’re interested in adopting him, contact the rescue group.
