Volodymyr Baidych, a resident of Ukraine, brutally dragged his dog leaving a mile-long blood trace on the tarmac. If it wasn't for an onlooker's car, he wouldn't have stopped.
A helpless dog was left bleeding profusely after his cruel owner tied and dragged him along a motorway in Ukraine. The heart-wrenching incident that unfolded near the town of Krasyliv in the western region of Khmelnytsky inflicted deep wounds on Barsik's (the dog) paws which were reportedly skinned to the bone. The poor pooch that was chained to a moving Volkswagen, left a mile-long blood trace on the tarmac which was spotted by drivers who were passing by the area, reports Daily Mail.
Appalled by the heinous act of crime committed by the dog's owner, one witness, Sergey, came in the way of the Volkswagen to stop it from going any further. "I blocked the motorway with my car and forced the Volkswagen driver to stop," said Sergey. Describing the horrific incident as an awful episode, she continued, "When I saw this awful episode I could not just forget it and do nothing." After stopping the car, other witnesses including Sergey immediately approached the dog to untie it and that's when they noticed its sorry state. "I untied the dog. The skin on its paws was peeled off. The wounds were bleeding horribly," said the witness.
The dog's owner, especially if he did this intentionally, should be dragged to his death by police, the P.O.S. 🤬— fleadip (@fleadip) 22 November 2019

A video released by the outlet shows how witnesses condemn the owner, Volodymyr Baidych, for his vicious actions. That's when Baidych, explained that he was on his way to dump the dog. "The Volkswagen driver said that he was punishing the dog for biting his mother. He said he was going to drag it to the woods and left it there to die," added the onlooker. Apart from rescuing the injured pooch, Sergey took pictures of the incident which show Barsik lying down in the pool of blood on the side of the motorway. In another, the owner, a man with grey hair, can be seen looking at his dog blankly without any feeling of remorse or what so ever.
Immediately, Barsik was rushed to the nearest vet who diagnosed him with multiple deep wounds bruises and shock. Speaking to local media outlets, Vasyl Vovk, a vet said, "The dog received wounds to its paws, stomach, and neck. In several places, the skin is peeled off to the bone. After being tortured, the animal could not stop shaking for the next two days." Now, Khmelnytsky Police Department has launched a criminal case against the owner Volodymyr Baidych, who is reportedly is a top official in the area. A spokeswoman for Khmelnytsky Police Department, Inna Glega, said, "The suspect said that he wanted to dump the dog in the wood after it bit his mother. He is under investigation for animal cruelty. He faces up to three years in prison if found guilty."
Thankfully, Barsik is on his road to recovery. "Barsik is receiving all medical help he needs and is getting better. He is very affectionate and friendly," said animal activist, Elena Golubnichaya. "I learned about Barsik on social media. I was heartbroken when I saw the picture. I have a big house. I think he will be happy at his new home," she added. Natalia Pobozhna, a local resident has volunteered to adopt Barsik and give him a good home that he deserves once he's released from the clinic.
