Can anyone be so cruel as to dump their disabled dog on the street when they're at their most vulnerable?
If you're a pet owner, you surely understand just how painful even the thought of leaving your pet behind is. Most of us can't even begin to fathom just how someone can abandon their little pooches on purpose especially when they need us the most. Surely, no one can. However, an unfortunate doggo had to see some rough days due to her heartless owners who straight up left her to die.
This gorgeous girl happened to be lying face down on the street. Lunita's movements were strictly limited, first due to the broken wheelchair and secondly because she was tied up outside a local grooming shop in Argentina, where no one stopped to budge and check up on the poor four-legged furry friend. Whoever performed this cruel gesture left her with was a bag of diapers and a wheelchair that didn't help her much.
Thankfully a passerby was kind enough to take notice of the dog and do something about the entire situation. The gracious person was a blessing in disguise for Lunita as she was taken to the veterinarian clinic right away. After undergoing several routine check-ups the vet gave Lunita a brand new wheelchair that quickly got her on her feet. It was like she was given a new life where she could walk and run once again.
After being cared for by an organization called Animal Shelters Near Me, she was found a temporary home at a shelter. A family contacted the shelter and offered to take Lunita along with them and give her a permanent family. But it was determined soon enough that the family wasn't able to provide the disabled canine the proper care that she really needed. She had developed a serious case of staphylococcal infection due as she slept in a mite-infested bed and so she returned to the shelter organization once again.
Luckily, Lunita finally found an American family who came forward and showed their interest in taking her in. Lunita was already suffering from scabies, urine scalding, and infections and that shed all her hair from the waist down. She was in going through an extreme amount of pain but thankfully it was under her new family's care that Lunita's pace of recovery sped up and she finally found the happily ever after she deserved. Just like any other happy dog, Lunita went out with her siblings for a run every single day. Sometimes they visited the parks or simply ran around in the open. Her paralysis never seemed to come in the way of her fun-filled life and it was all because of the custom-built wheelchair that helped her move from one place to another without facing many difficulties.
Lunita celebrated her 11th birthday on June 15 at her new home last year in the company of her sibling, friends, and family. The family even got her a dog-friendly birthday cake which she seemed to enjoy quite a lot. Just when things were looking good, the most tragic thing happened. The furry pooch fell sick just a month after her birthday and had to be admitted to the hospital. She had to be shifted to the ICU due to her critical condition at the University Medical Hospital, where she eventually breathed her last.
A Facebook page called 'Lunita's wish' contained a post from her mother who intimated everyone about her condition. She wrote: Lunita passed away today in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of the University Medical Hospital. Her prognosis wasn't good, and her breathing was continuing to worsen. Each time they took her off of oxygen, her tongue would start to turn blue. We decided that it was time to let her go. The post continued as she explained how the vets used a "wagon to wheel Lunita into the private room where the family was patiently waiting".
She received oxygen while we said goodbye. Lunita was given a large amount of IV sedatives and then the medication to put her to sleep. Lunita died in my arms. We are devastated and couldn't stop crying. I feel like a part of my soul has died. I will never forget her and how much she meant to me. She changed my life forever. I loved her so much, the post continued. She concluded her post with: I wanted to thank every one of you who prayed for her and donated to help her. It has meant so much to us. I hope that one day, I will be able to see Lunita again in Heaven. The house has been so empty without her. We had her body cremated, and I will pick up her ashes tomorrow afternoon. It is a comfort knowing that some part of her will be here with me again. Thank you.
Soon people flooded the comment section with condolences and good wishes for Lunita and her family.
