Couple Who Wed During World War II Renew Wedding Vows On Their 75th Anniversary!

Marriages are never easy, and it takes a lot of work to maintain one, but Jim Richardson, 95, and Irene, 94, have been married for 75 years! That is quite a long time, and a lot of would have gone into it to maintain it for this long!

In an era where we find it hard to believe someone when they say they're in it forever, this lovely couple has given us reason to prove otherwise. We live in a period where people dump their partners over the silliest of arguments and believe in rebounds more than true love.  An elderly couple from Lancashire will make even the hardest of hearts melt and make you believe in love all over again! Marriages are never easy, and it takes a lot of work to maintain one, but Jim Richardson, 95, and Irene, 94, have been married for 75 years! That is quite a long time, and a lot of would have gone into it to maintain it for this long!

According to BBC, they returned to renew their vows on their 75th anniversary. Jim and Irene met at a dance and got married on April 12, 1944, when they were aged 20 and 19, in the midst of the second world war. They are believed to have the longest marriage in Lancashire. They have four children together! Even though they had such a long and fruitful marriage, Jim always had a few regrets about how he never thanked his late mother during his original groom’s speech and wanted to walk out to ‘the wedding march’.

So, his granddaughter Sandra Taylor planned a ceremony for the so-in-love couple. Their second ceremony way mirrored just like the first one.  They even stood in the same place at the altar and their ceremony also took place at 2 pm, the same time they became man and wife in 1944. "It went amazingly. We got photographs of them leaving the front door. They were very excited about it. The blessing was just lovely," said Sandra, about the service.

The service took place at St. Michael’s CE church in Lancashire, and it was attended by their four children, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Yes, if you still can't grasp how long they've been married, they have a great-great-grandchild. Also, they have the cutest proposal story ever. Jim knew, from the moment he met her at the dance that she was the one for him.

The two of them went on a bike ride and Jim went down on one knee to propose to Irene when they stopped at a local wood! Since granddaughter Sandra knew Jim had an unfulfilled wish, she requested that Jim's late mother received a special mention during the prayers so her grandfather could fulfill his wish to thank her, according to Daily Mail.  She said, "I asked to put in the prayers to thank his mum for everything she did for him while she was alive."

Jim also got his wish to walk out to the wedding march granted, while Irene chose to sing "All thing bright and beautiful" during the service. Jim said he felt absolutely delighted of the long marriage and added he felt "six feet tall".  He also said, "I would do it all again. I'm proud of every member of my family." Irene, who was equally happy, said, "You can always go to one another with your troubles. It has been a lovely life."

Sandra said 'compromise' was the secret to their loving marriage, adding, "They love each other very much and they do talk about things. I think it's routine - they know what they are going to be doing. Certainly, that's to do with their longevity. They said that there is no secret to a happy, long marriage, just take each day as it comes." She also said the couple is still very independent, and that he still drives!
