This Couple Lost 400 Pounds Together After Making New Year's Resolution And Now Feel "Happier" And "Proud"

Lexi and Danny Reed made it their New Year's resolution to shed their extra pounds. The couple stuck to their resolution and in two years managed to lose a collective 400 pounds.

For some of us, a perfect weekend comprises curling up on the couch with our partners and binging on the latest series that Netflix has to offer. Of course, there's also the standard stuff yourself with as much junk food as you possibly can ritual that comes hand in hand. Now, imagine doing this every single day. Get's old pretty fast, doesn't it? Lexi and Danny Reed have lived this life. The married couple had gotten so used to leading an extremely unhealthy lifestyle, due to which they were both grossly overweight. However, on New Year's Day 2016, they decided to turn their lives around and shed all those extra pounds.  



 

The 5-foot-6-inch Lexi weighed 485 pounds and 5-foot-8-inch Danny tipped the scale at 280 when they first started out. Speaking to Today about finally making the decision to lose weight and get on a healthier lifestyle, Lexi said, "I just felt happier. I felt proud of myself. I was accomplishing something and I was finally doing something." She had been overweight for as long as she could remember, and when she started dating Danny in 2007, they got into the habit of going out frequently or sitting in front of the TV for hours and end while mindlessly eating. 



 

A compelling reason behind wanting to become healthier was Lexi's fear that being overweight would shorten the time she had with Danny. Both of them had talked about having children and she was worried her weight would cause complications. "I knew I could never be a mom at the size that I was and that was one thing that motivated me," Lexi said. Their weight loss journey was given a major boost when a friend challenged them to take up the 30-day-challenge which required them to give up alcohol, going out to eat or having a cheat meal.  



 

The couple took the dare and also started going to the gym. Upon successfully completing the one month, the couple added vegetables and lean protein, such as salmon and chicken to their diet. "We just switched the fast food for healthy choices," Lexi said. She elaborated on how difficult it was to make the switch to healthier food, in an interview with ABC News. "The hardest part of our journey was changing our relationship with food. When I was 485 pounds, I never cooked. My husband and I would go out to eat for almost every single meal and if we did cook at home, it was frozen pizza or anything else unhealthy," she said.



 

"We found that by meal-prepping instead of relying on fast food, we were able to stick with our goals when we were at work. And by learning to cook our own meals we were in charge of what we were eating. We were willing to learn every single day of our journey and we also started using the gym as therapy instead of food. By changing our minds, habits and emotional triggers, we changed our lives," Lexi added. Their hard work and dedication showed itself on the scale and the couple lost a total of 400 pounds in just two years. "I went from a size 28 to a size 10," Lexi said, while Danny added, "I went from a 46 all the way down to a 32." 



 

 

Another unexpected perk of their weight-loss journey was the wonders it did for their relationship. "Doing this as a couple has helped us in so many ways. On days when we were unmotivated, we pushed each other to go to the gym. We also started meal-prepping together, setting goals, and day by day or pound by pound we grew closer throughout our journey," Lexi said. Danny agrees as he said, "This helped our relationship a lot and that is pretty cool. Us being able to do stuff together has brought us closer together." Celebrity fitness trainer Latreal Mitchell claims having someone to lean on is the key to success.  



 

 

"A workout partner is key. Accountability is everything. Not every day you’re going to want to go out there and give it your all. At least you’ll have someone to say, 'Come on. Today is my day to uplift you and vice versa'," she said. Today Lexi has a viral Instagram account where she regularly posts videos of their workout sessions. What started out as a simple New Year's resolution is now a million follower base for @fatgirlfedup. "I never expected to have such an impact. I just wanted to get healthy," Lexi said. 



 

Lexi is extremely grateful for the way things have turned around for her and Danny. "There are no words to explain the feeling of saving your own life. Going into 2018 I have nothing but newfound happiness for this life I am living. I no longer am a prisoner in my own body and instead of just existing in my own life, I’m finally alive. Every day I wake up is a blessing," she said. It's truly praise-worthy how far this adorable couple has come from their days spent on the couch.
