"Every dollar counts. That money goes directly to the firefighters, the people on the frontline, the people who have suffered, the communities that have taken a hit and who are in desperate need of our support," said Hemsworth in the video.
Chris Hemsworth, who plays the role of Marvel's Thor, is now part of the list of celebrities who have made hefty donations to help those affected by the ravaging Australian bushfires. According to a report by the Independent, Hemsworth has donated $1 million towards helping firefighters, who have been working tirelessly to contain the flames, and residents, who have lost their homes to the destructive blaze. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the 36-year-old actor uploaded a video in which he highlighted the extent of devastation caused by the fires. Furthermore, he urged his followers and fans to do their part and help the victims in any way they can.
"Hey there guys, as you’re well aware the bushfires in Australia have caused massive devastation. They continue to burn, there’s warmer weather on its way, we’re really still in the thick of it here, as is plenty of challenging times ahead still to come [sic]," began Hemsworth in his video addressing the current situation. "What we need is your support and your donations. I'm going to put forward a million dollars and was hoping that all of you could contribute in any way, shape or form," he continued.

"Every dollar counts. That money goes directly to the firefighters, the people on the frontline, the people who have suffered, the communities that have taken a hit and who are in desperate need of our support," assured the star. "I want to say a huge "thank you" to everyone who's sent all their well-wishes and donations already. It's greatly appreciated here in Australia. Dig deep, lots of love and we'll keep pushing forwards. Cheers," he said concluding the clip. So far, the fires have destroyed over 1500 homes, burned through over four million hectares of land, and has claimed the lives of 24.
I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires. I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines. Hemsworth's video was accompanied by a caption that read: Hi everyone. Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia. My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully, you guys can chip in too. Every penny counts so whatever you can muster up is greatly appreciated. In my bio I’ve added links to support the fire fighters, organisations and charities who are working flat out to provide support and relief during this devastating and challenging time. Beyond appreciative to everyone around the world for their well wishes and donations. It really does make a difference, so dig deep! Love ya.
Hemsworth is one of many high profile celebrities who has donated to this cause. Recently, pop star, Pink donated $500,000 to firefighters battling the Australian fires that killed over half a billion animals in the affected regions. Artists like Selena Gomez and Nicole Kidman too have given hundreds of thousands of dollars for the same. As for Chris' pledge, it comes shortly after Australian actor and comedian Celeste Barber created a global fundraiser to help firefighters. Over $30 million has already been raised by people in just 5 days. Apart from donations, actors like Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett have raised awareness and urged Hollywood stars to support Australia during this time of crisis with their speeches at the recent Golden Globes.
